Description
Both are cap dumps but Anderson is definitely lower value. Maybe the jets add a 3rd to make it even. Allows mtl to use the cap they save in years 3 and 4 on major FA and extensions and jets get a pick and a playoff type player. Lmk what you guys think

They get 5+ million in cap space when they are exiting the rebuild and would have cap to sign a major free agent like a Tavares I'm toronto. This would allow for younger players to get an opportunity now rather than being blocked for 4 years

They may not want to but it's the reality they will be in. Having 5 plus million in the years when they become competitive is invaluable to keeping and attracting major players to mtl

If it comes to that he'll be waived and buried, no point in paying to move anyone.

They are in 7th place in their division, CGY has all kinds of problems and who knows how high that pick can be you have them trading and they are no where close to needing to pay somebody for a guy that could turn it around. This is a bad trade for them.

The cap is so valuable imagine being able to sign a Tavares level player in the 3rd year saving the money from trading Anderson. It makes sense to dump him as he has 2 points and allow Roy or someone else via laval or other trade for nhl ice team. To bury him does nothing but lower his value to what it would cost to dump Campbell with 3 first approximately, this is one 1st so this is actually pretty good for mtl before the price to dump increases

Not guaranteed to be their pick could be swapped to plenty of other picks with the conditions. It's not their 2025 unprotected lol. It could cost even more in the coming weeks to dump him especially if he plays the way he has.

Edit: looking at the conditions. Most likely rn is Calgary bottom 10 and panthers not so mtl would get a pick in the 18-32 range via panthers so the pick actually isn't as valuable as people think. People see Calgary pick and don't remember the conditions that make it not as valuable as the pick alone.

No matter what the add on is, whatever team gets stuck with Anderson loses the trade in a landslide.

Plus $22 mil of dead cap costs more than a single mid first to dump.

Schmidt is still a decent NHL player. Anderson isn't.

Or the alternate version is that MTL keep Anderson for the next 2 years and pays the price at that point to move him or buy him out if need be without having to take a roster spot away from a young player for Schmidt.

You're asking MTL to pay a 1st now to solve a problem they don't currently have.

That's can be true, but Montreal will gonna have a lot of flexibility at the next offseason and even way more during the summer of 2025. I don't see Montreal rush or trade away Bergevin's horribles contracts right now..................

Montreal will gonna have 21M in their cap space for the next season, and except Montembeault, they don't really have key players to resign.

Look at the conditions. Most likely if Calgary is bottom 10 next year and panthers aren't mtl gets the panthers not Calgary. Definitely not as valuable as people see as they don't remember the conditions

If mtl waits it could be that 1st and even more to dump him. Trading him before it gets worse for a pick that is likely just a early to mid 20s 2025 pick which has a hit rate not as a guarantee and to be a star even lower seems really fair and mtl gets cap when they look to exit the rebuild

Save cap when they exit the rebuild 5.5m that can be used on extensions and attracting elite talent. Also cuts the dump off before it costs a fortune to do so like oilers with Campbell needing 2+ firsts. Anderson also doesn't benefit his linemates and makes them worse while blocking younger players from more ice time. Makes sense to trade him

LOL Anderson drew more penalties and got much of those 3rd passes or cut play in the neutral zone, he still has the speed but not playing in a north/south system or old crush-the-net system ... and would cost to «dump» because of money or points ... yeah Hockey is to score, but 90% of it is something else that most of you do not know yet. Just like Lehkonen was blasted a few years back, Anderson will thrive somewhere else and everyone will be surprised ... oh and he is the kind of player that teams love along the board in playoff or playoff push just to say ... a cap dump, pay to take him, LOOL !!

So why are we paying a premium if it only save cap in 3-4 years. Why not just wait (he will gain more value than today) until he has 1-2 years left. Then, if we need the cap space, just buy him out or trade him at a very low dump

He's currently blocking Ylonen from more ice time as well as actively making his linemates worse. If he's continues the way he's been playing it may cost 2+ firsts to dump him and cap space is super valuable especially coming out of a rebuild ex panarin, Pavelski, Tavares, geaudreau

As you pointed out, in the 3rd year. That CGY 1st isn't going anywhere. If absolutely required, there are no options for cap gymnastics and we're looking to make a splash, then maybe MAYBE KH considers paying to move a contract. Absolutely no reason to consider it for a minimum of 2 years, which makes it a 26 or 27 1st which would then hypothetically be in the latter half of those respective drafts. I get that everyone is jumping all over this but there is no rush for anything and there will be no paying anything to move any contracts for the foreseeable future.

Because in 2 years it could cost 2+ firsts to trade a likely 20-32 pick next year to get rid of him now allows Ylonen to get more time and become a new lehkonen and cut it off before it increases to get rid of him when teams know it will take more to dump him

In 2 years, it won’t cost a lot. Retained 50%, he might even get something good. And Ylonen isn’t really blocked, he is getting more and more responsabilities
