How To Stop Being A Joke

Description
McCabe is trash. He belongs on the Blackhawks or some rebuilding team, not the Leafs.

Lagesson and Timmins are AHLers. They don't belong in the NHL.

Giordano, bless his soul, but he's the oldest player in the league and it shows. He should be the 7th D.

Brodie is soft in the corners and in front of the net. He's not a playoff caliber player.

Rielly is the only good defenceman on this team. Liljegren is a serviceable depth piece, so ideally Treliving needs to bring in four legitimate top 4 defencemen before the trade deadline. Otherwise this team is getting knocked out in round 1 again.

This D core is worse than before. Gio should be 7th D. That's the only thing I agree with.

Schenn isn't what he used to be, he's also hurt. Hasn't played since October 10th. So trading a 1st pick is horrible. Even if he wasn't hurt, he's a bottom pairing D. He was bad at defense last year, and fed most of his offense off of Quinn Hughes. He came to Toronto and his offense fell off, even though he was playing with Rielly most of the time.

Brodie may not be flashy or that tough, but he's one of the most consistent defensive defensemen year in and year out. His positioning is great, which limits opportunities. If he has to go to bring in Tanev and Zadorov, so be it. But it's not a great move as it only boosts defense a little bit.

Timmins has just gotten back from injury, but was decent before. Give him a sec to get readjusted. Lagesson is an AHLer. Hes not a full-time roster player at all; he's only there because Klingberg and Liljegren are out.

Middleton is...meh. So it Lyubushkin. Both are physical, but that doesn't make them great players.

Essentially, McCabe and Gio were the only full time roster players who were bottom pairing guys. You now have Bush, Middleton, Schenn, and arguably Zadorov. This is worse. Maybe even significantly. Zadorov and Tanev are the only two additions that are useful. But giving up Brodie for them isn't that great.

Leafs just need guys that can hit, clear the front of the net, and make a first pass.

Schenn was a great compliment to Rielly, and he's also one of the toughest guys in the league so a 1st for him, with half his salary retained for 3 years, is not a bad trade.

So, you don't like the Leafs Dmen. So the solution is getting middling Dmen or worse from non playoff teams.
Seems like so many Leafs fans, see all the mistakes Leafs Dmen make, but because they don't see many games from other teams, those players make fewer mistakes

Tanev is not a middling D man. And if the Leafs bring back serious top 4 guys like a Pesce, a Hanifin, or guys of those caliber then an asset like Knies, Marner, or Nylander needs to be part of that package and the Leafs brass isn't ready to do that. So getting physical guys who can make a pass is the next best option.

If you traded that for Middleton and then put him in your top-4, you might actually become a bigger joke

..... expects one-point-off-the-top-of-the-West Vancouver to pay a 2nd for him.

Glorious.

Getting a first for Schenn, sign me up! Don’t care that we’re giving up our last retention slot.

Luke Schenn is 34 years old and already not very good. 3 years of "at least he can hit" is the exact same situation the Leafs have with Ryan Reaves right now. A 1st for "at least he can hit" is an unbelievably terrible trade.
