Détails additionnels:
This might seem like an insane trade, but it actually makes loads of sense.

With Weegar, Kadri, and Huberdeau on long-term deals, the team likely doesn't want to rebuild.

Klingberg gives CGY a real PP specialist Weegar is 0.5ppg in his career. Klingberg is 0.66ppg. He is significantly better as a PP QB. In Calgary, he can play behind Weegar and Andersson.

Bertuzzi had 30 goals the year before last, was on a 40+ goal pace the Covid season and had two 20 goal seasons before that. He hasn't been a great fit in Toronto but he is undoubtedly a solid top 6 guy who would improve Calgary's forward corp.

In short there is a solid argument this deal makes them better this year and everyone involved is a pending UFA.
CGY
  1. Benoit, Simon
  2. Bertuzzi, Tyler
  3. Klingberg, John
Détails additionnels:
Toronto gets the D they need then just need to fill the hole this created in the top 6.

But this year they are hot garbage (klingberg and Bertuzzi)

You're asking for the players on the Flames that are actually playing decent in return for your hot garbage?

Of all the Tanev to the Leafs trades I’ve seen on this site, this one isn’t actually that bad. Flames still say no though

Klingberg had 2 powerplay goals last season and 8 assists.. Andersson has 1 less goal and 12 more assists, Hanifin had 1 less goal and 1 less assist. Klingberg is also absolute garbage in every other aspect of the game, no one wants Klingberg and he was traded for next to nothing last season, why do you think he would get significant assets this season??

Bertuzzi has stunk and fits nowhere on the Flames.

If the Flames are moving those pieces they are selling, not taking on regrettable contracts from the Leafs to do them a favour. It makes zero sense whatsoever.

Lol no thanks. If Calgary is selling it is for futures, definitely not other rentals

Too much for Tanev and Zadorov, especially with no salary retained.

Getting to wipe your hands clean of Bertuzzi and Klingberg should be incentive enough, let alone getting two competent d men in return. This is horrible for Calgary and there's no other way to paint it.

By this logic we should mercifully take this horrible 35th percentile player (WORSE THAN BERTUZZI THIS YEAR) getting paid $12.5M per year.

Actually forget mercifully taking him. this player for $12.5M, we should be getting a few firsts too just for taking the contract.

By what measure are those guys playing better? Every analytical figure I can find from Corsi to WAR has Bertuzzi and Klingberg playing better. Also if you are going to judge the entire value of a player on 11 games played in a single system on a single team you likely aren't a good judge of talent.

You said he was a PP specialist… you feel like PP stats are cherry picked?? What are you on?? What’s cherry picked is deciding to ignore that Klingberg was traded for a lower cap last season for a German Elite League player, no name AHL guy and a low pick then deciding he’s a viable trade piece this season. Its a bad deal, its okay to be told no, don’t get twisted up about it

Great for the Leafs and Terrible for the Flames

Doubt Bertuzzi waives his NMC either. Try moving him to BOS

Ran this past a friend who scouts for the Flames and a video analyst friend working for the Leafs.

Flames guy said they would take it easily and the Leafs guy laughed. Bert's value is apparently still really high, 11 games doesn't undo what he's done for the last 200+ as a 1st line guy. Also both pointed out that Bert's analytics are awesome with Toronto and as much as Klingberg is getting heat he actually has a better expected goals % than Tanev or Zadorov.

Leafs guy went so far as to say there likely needs to be a 2nd from Calgary for the Leafs to even consider it.

Klingberg has a higher expected goals than Tanev and Zadorov…. Well I would hope so.. two are not expected to score and actually play defense. Klingberg is a PP specialist with bad numbers on the PP the last two years…. What on earth would you possibly get from making this story up?!

Klingberg wasn't good last year either. People are calling about Tanev and Zadorov, I don't think the same can be said about Klingberg and Bertuzzi.

He has a high expected goals % that means analytics say he his team should score more of the % of goals when he is on than when Tanev of Zadorov are one.

It's not about how many goals it's the percentage of goals. Means he's been more valuable all around.

Firstly that would be “on ice expected goals” secondly.. as he should the team he’s on has 36 goals for, the flames have 8 less and Tanev is asked to play minutes against the other teams best players. Klingberg is sheltered and given ozone starts because he’s so bad. Look at what he was traded for last year and then try justify why he’s magically gained value since putting a leafs sweater on. Don’t be dumb just for fun.

Definetly there was no interest in the UFAs who just signed for $4M and $5.5M,

Tre is just a crazy guy man, who knows, these guys would have been in the AHL and this maniac comes around and offers them like top 4 and top 6 money for no reason. Nobody was calling them, nobody wants them. Gotta wonder how that guy became a GM. Hell he's done it twice! Crazy.

You can't deny it sounded good on paper during the off season for both Calgary and Toronto, he takes wild swings and misses hard. Bertuzzis gonna turn it around though, right? Klingberg, I understand the gamble but it looks terrible right now.

Was this made before or after the game? The reason I ask is because Knies just earned a spot on the topline for the season. He actually has high hockey IQ that gels with Matthews and Marner.
