Hawks pass instantaneously. Seth Jones 2.0. Nylander will ultimately be a Leaf. Leafs fans want that too. Seems like they're now willing to pay ~$12M per year for him too. Hawks fans want to keep to the plan. Don't trade away 1sts for a number of more years. Stupid to do otherwise.

Both of the first round picks from Chicago will most likely be Top 10 selections. I like Nylander, but it doesnt make sense for Chicago if thats what it costs.

Adding Brodie in there is a sneaky move. He would not be long term fit with Chicago, moving money is not free in this league.

If the 1st rounders were guaranteed in the 15-20 range I'd say the trade was fair but, the picks will almost for sure be in the 1-10 range both years which is way too much to lose for a rebuilding team like Chicago

The SanJose trade wouldn't be necessary if you slightly changed the Arizona deal McBain and Ingram for Samsonov, Jarnkrok and the 1st rounder seems fair IMO
It frees up 1+mil in space for Toronto after Timmins comes back and you still have some picks if you decide to retool the defense or goaltending later in the year

Basically a lateral move for SJ aka zero sum gain. Last thing we want to do is add another multi year veteran contract.

Hawks obviously decline. Trading two potential top 10 pick plus the other assets in that deal for Nylander would be foolish. Any trade for Nylander by the Hawks without an extension in place isn't happening.

Even with an extension in place, I doubt CHI would trade for him. If they have any interest in him, they will want to structure the contract in a way that makes the most sense for CHI, not for TOR.
