Garland trade is effectively trading Garland end of the season for nothing without getting to play him this season. Mantha isn't even a replacement-level player at this point. I don't think that makes sense. Once the crazy free agent market of next season shapes up Garland either has value or at least makes it to even value with only 2 years left. Might as well get the play out of him this year and trade him in the offseason then.

Canucks only make this move to have cap space next season. This move frees up the money needed for Petey, Hronek, and a player like Fabbro

The hawks have a full team of guys they can retain and flip at the deadline. They're not doing Vancouver a favor and paying for their cap dump and using up one of their retention slots just for a measly pick upgrade that is no guarantee. It's his last year. Just eat it and be done with it.

If NSH wasn't interested in trading Fabbro for Garland, it seems far less likely they'd be willing to trade him for a much worse player.

Well it's equally dense to think a playoff team is giving up a 2nd for Myers at the deadline. He's barely a 3rd pair guy on a playoff caliber team. Don't recall too many recent deadline deals that had 3rd pair guys returning a 2nd.

I think some people spend too much time in their reddit (or whatever given forum) echo chambers. So when they come on here and converse with fans of other teams, they have already convinced themselves that their ideas make sense without any consideration for the other team. They aren't used to actually dealing with multiple fan bases to create consensus... Which is still a $h!t show even for the regulars on here, like you and I, but we generally have a better feel for what is realistic than outsiders and casuals, at least. haha
