Okay this needs to be talked about with Leafs fans and it’s getting ridiculous..
Toronto is not going to make Woll their permanent starter without a reliable backup for him - Jones is not that. Relax on the Woll hype train. They love him. They’ve believed he’d be a star for years and likely will be. But he’s never played over 40 games as a pro and they’re not gonna throw him to the wolves right now. So Samsonov stays (unless a goalie is coming back in the deal).
A few other notes:
1. They’re not looking at moving Klingberg and likely won’t. He was brought in as a change for the PP and right now it’s operating at 35% so it’s working. He’s fit great on it and holds the puck on the zone so well and is a right handed shot option that actually shoots the puck (Rielly was never really a shooting threat).
2. Zadorov will cost more than that. Beat comps out there are David Savard to Tampa and Ben Chiarot to Florida.. a 1st is the starting point. Likely a mid round pick and/or mid tier prospect as well. The style he plays is coveted for playoffs and they’ll be a bunch of teams trying to get him for a run.
3. Laughton definitely costs more. I believe I heard that Briere turned down a significant offer at the draft and he’s asking in the realm of 2 valued pieces similar to a 1st round pick and a good prospect on top of that. You might laugh at the price but Chicago got that for Hagel so that’s within reason - you’re getting a cost-effective player that can play anywhere in the top 9 with physicality for 3 seasons.. that’s not cheap.
