How can you say you hate the Leafs without saying you hate the leafs lol
Carlo isn't worth half of Nylander. He's a fine secondary defenceman but he's no start and you aren't trading Nylander for anything short than a top pair defenceman Carlo is not that.
There are contract considerations here. Carlo is locked into a great contract, while Nylander seems to be asking for a top contract. Nylander is easily the better player, but you have to build a roster and your defense is probably your Achilles heel when you look at your talented team.
My hope is Toronto keeps Nylander through the season and he becomes a free agent because I anticipate Boston will be among his top options. They’ll have the cap space to bring him in. If he leaves, will you be in a position to sign a good defenseman like Hanifan? Can you sign him and improve that defense (hopefully by bringing in a solid defender rather than a puck mover who plays mediocre defense)?
With regards to how good is Lysell? He needs to recapture what he had the beginning of last season before the WJC’s. He’s not letting his teammates create for him and utilizing his immense physical gifts. He basically threw away an opportunity to be a top 6 line player with the parent club because of this, but you can’t teach his speed, puck handling, shot, and willingness to charge the net. If he handles the demotion right, he should easily rebuild. I wouldn’t trade him now because the return you get won’t align with his physical talent
