A few thoughts:
1) This is a bad trade from MTL's perspective, in my opinion. They give up team control, and a cheaper cap hit on a young player at a premium position who fits their youth movement. Petey's amazing, but I think some of the cap/contract context doesn't really make sense for MTL, unless they are okay to accelerate out into the mushy middle and feel they've stock-piled enough to carry them upwards into the elite of the NHL.
2) Canucks fans will likely say that Petey won't want to go to a bottom-dweller. I don't know if that is his issue. It is more the Canucks philosophy or quick fixes that consistently limit their ceiling - which is now biting them in the butt - that I think he is mindful of. That is my perception anyway, from out here in BC. He is a smart player. Therefore, he may see a team with DIRECTION like Montreal as appealing. No guarantee, but I think the issue isn't them (the Canucks) losing, but more them not having a legit plan to contention.
