Funny got laughed at when I said it was going to be 11 or 12mill for a 8 year. Power just took notice.

Probably not that big of an overpay (he'll live up to it) but it hurts the salary structure of the team when it's 4 mil more than Thompson and Cozens.

Can’t expect him to take the same amount with the announcement of the cap going up. This will probably be the norm for 1Ds going forward. More interested to see how their young group of forwards on out. Kulich, Power, Quinn, Peterka, Savoie, Benson and Levi are all gonna be due raises before Skinners contract comes off the books

Power is the big one, what is a bridge deal even gonna look like for him. Why would he take a 8 year now.

Not sure Buffalo can safely afford to bridge him. But if you’re looking for a comparable that recent, maybe K’Andre Miller with a slight increase given the cap increase.

Well Sabres really aren't gonna have much say in that come next year. Really depends on what Power and his Agent want to do.

The other problem is that that 87.5 mil projection is just an estimate right now, what if it only goes to 85 next year?! The Sabres will still have that cap space but it becomes less comfortable for them.

Swap this contract with Cale Makar's & it would make a lot more sense for both players

Thankfully the Sabres will be able to roll out some ELC'S over the next few years. And there gonna need a few of there D prospects to grow and develop. Johnson Novikov Strbak will all need to make contributions at some point.

I'd say: get used to it. We're going to be seeing this a lot moving forward now that the cap is going up. Players are going to be asking for more money and the top ones will be getting quite a bit more than what they were signing for the past three years; the flat cap discounts are over and nobody will have as much cap space as they thought they would.

Thompson came out of Absolutely nowhere with that one season, there was a fair amount of risk to both the Sabres and Thompson. Cozens looked like a decent middle 6 center, but he didn't start to really produce offensively until after he signed his contract. Dahlin looks different, he's been a different player under granato and paired with Samuelsson.

I’m totally ok with the contract
Gonna be a good deal for us within a few years

Now we gotta get Power done long term, which might be tough
He really doesn’t deserve more than Cozens/Tage, but i bet it takes something in the $8–9mil range for a long term deal

Reasonably, power has only scratched the surface. I don't think his agent would be doing him any favors if he let him sign now, unless we offer something like what dahlin got.

I think his agent talks him into playing out this season before he signs, to try & “up” his value

But :
1- Power isn’t gonna get 73pts like Dahlin just did
2- And even though he’s also a 1OA pick, he’s not the “generational” talent that Dahlin is
3- and he’s still gonna be on our 2nd pair

I think those 3 things will keep Power from “cashing in huge” like Dahlin just did

My guess- just a GUESS- is that the Sabres will try n get him done long term for $7mil per

Idk what he’ll actually sign for….
But it’s gonna be hard for him to get Dahlin/Makar/Fox $$$ without putting up the offensive stats

And i just don’t see how he puts up those stats with Dahlin in front of him

He probably ends up signing a bridge deal
Which I’d be ok with

See what Brisson and Power are thinking, if you go by the same amount of games when they started Power has only scored like 6 less points than Dahlin and is playing about 2 to 3min more a night at this point. Another good year could even make that bridge expensive.
