Nurse is probably one of the worst contracts in the entire NHL and doesn't fit the build of the ducks (he's 28). Yeah they are getting rid of Fowler, but getting Faulk who is the same age but more expensive.. Neighbors is a meh prospect that at most ends up being a contending teams 3rd/4th liner or rebuilding teams 2nd/3rd liner. Keep in mind what St Louis is giving up Neighbors for in the first place (not much).

If Edmonton wants to get Zegras there is no package that doesn't start with Bourgault and a 1st at bare minimum. Probably includes another better prospect or a young roster player as well. Not to mention, you will also have to pay a team a hefty fee (at least a 1st rounder) to take that Nurse contract and that is even IF he waives his NMC (which he has for the next 4 seasons, followed by only 10 teams he can be traded to for another 3 years after that).

Why exactly do the Blues do this? Neighbors will probably only top as a 2nd line guy but he plays a heavy game and is a heavy compete player, definitely not a whatever player to throw in. Regardless, swapping Faulk for Fowler makes even less sense. They're probably pretty similar in how they play the game, Fowler is probably a little worse defensively. This leaves the Blues with long-term contracts to Krug, Fowler and Leddy. None of which are capable of filling the void that has been troubling the defense and now there's a glaring hole at RD in which we have nobody in the system to fill. The depth chart then looks like this

Leddy Parayko
Fowler Bortuzzo
Krug Matthew Kessel
Tucker
Perunovich
Rosen

Of guys who can at least play in the NHL or are fringe guys. It has effectively made our defense worse, locked up the defense for the same term (1 year less now that i look at it), created a rather large hole with no close fills, and gave away a solid ELC player for a 3rd and a 5th and effectively what looks like 1.6m in cap savings.

Just curious for the reasoning for the Blues to entertain the swap.
