Why would CHI pay a 3rd round pick for a player they let walk a year ago?

Teams don’t usually trade 1st round picks without getting a top 6 player. This is a waste of a 1st rounder move . Would rather move Kubalik for free as he’s not worth a 1st

What most likely happened is that some desperate GM offered a late first last deadline and now he thinks that this offer carried on in the offseason

In the meantime, REAL Top-6 forwards like Reilly Smith or even Anthony Duclair go for a 3rd round pick or less.
