Yes because he's a 25 year old big defenseman with 3 years on his deal at much less money and he's physical which Brodie is not.

Just to add, to lose all of that for just 1.25m in cap saving.

All that for a player Columbus doesn't even need. Brodie's an RD. Columbus is not in the market for an RD.

Brodie a left shot he's better on the left side was always forced to play the right side

Liljegren, Giordano, Holl were the only defensemen that played regular time last season that's why he was the best defender and those other guys often played with worst players not that hard to be the best defender if schenn and McCabe played the whole season he wouldn't have been the best defender, Brodie also plays with the top forward groups and doesn't have as much defensive time since there's so much offense.

From CBJ's perspective, LD might be even less of a need. On the right, at least he's an upgrade over someone like Gudbranson (obviously) or Boqvist, he'd probably be 2RD in a crowded room until Jiricek comes up. On the left, he's looking at 3rd-pair when everyone is healthy, unless you want to play Provorov on the 3rd pair. We just don't need defensemen, of any kind, at the moment.

Why does Columbus want to trade the controlled player for a UFA.

Provorov is definitely the top RHD

Send gudbranson or boqvist instead then or bean I'll take any of them over Brodie but for gudbranson there will be no retention

Why a UFA over a rfa? well $3M cost for Brodie is comparable to cost of peeke but Columbus gets the experience and they trade a RHD for a need on the left side instead that's my only argument and they extended peeke last year so maybe they changed their minds on him

Provorov is an LHD, as he’s been for his entire life. What are you smoking? He will be 2LD behind Werenski in one of the most obvious lineup decisions on the entire Blue Jackets roster. Are you perhaps confusing him with Damon Severson, an actual RHD who also played for a Metro team last season?

I can maybe see the argument for taking the UFA over the player with three years, considering the number of prospects that will need roster spots within the span of Peeke’s contract. But the rest of your argument is junk.
