@Upsidedownque's point about the defense is a good onewhich is ehy the only likely way this works is if it's a rentsl for rental deal with Toews for Nylander. Girard being locked at 5M could allow them to probably keeo Nylander (if they can fit him at 9-9.75M for next year) when guys like Rantanen and Byram command sizeable raises.

I don't know if Toronto would be in the market for a LD but if they are it's probably for a top pairing guy and not a top 4 D like Girard, the rest of the package doesn't mean much to a team that's trying to win now even if the value may be there.

So the rebuilding shorks give up a 3rd and a 5th for two players on the wrong side of 31. And as an added bonus, they give up assets to help you unload 6.5 mil in cap space. Good stuff! Keep it coming!

You should try making this with a 2024-2025 roster where Landeskog comes back as expected. It doesn’t work. Team is just all around worse.

OK but it Landy becomes the player he once was again you're not taking his 1st line role and giving it to someone who will be way more expensive and throw you into cap hell.

This destroys the team all to overpay for a winger you can’t re-sign. That sort of package gets you a permanent answer at 2C, and for the comment that Landeskog is perfect on the 3rd line, in a cap world only insane or foolish people think having a $7M 3rd line player works. The defense is gutted if you somehow manage to sign Nylander who wants $10M and Toews who will get $8M+ how the hell do you extended Byram, then Rantanen, and then of course down the line Makar, the cap isn’t going to $125M.

Yeah 24yr old top 4 puck moving dman that play 20 minutes a night and score 30pts a season with no PP1 time are cap dumps. Saying Girard is a cap-dump is the same as saying Nylander is a cap-dump. Do we both need to unload the salaries? Yes. But are they players that are just going to be given away for nothing? No.

It will be very interesting to see the return for Nylander. Just like the shorks with Karlsson and Meier, the entire league knows you aren't in a position of power. Nylander will also be a UFA at the end of the season, unlike Meier was, further decreasing his value. Him wanting 10 mil will also decrease his value and the number and of offers. Let the games begin.
