I don't know why Leaf fans have a fascination with middling at best Dmen like Peeke. Sure he hits, but that's because when hie's on the ice, his team never has the puck.

Ah yes, my favourite narrative from people who are incapable of evaluating defensive defensemen. The vast majority of coaches in the NHL are so ignorant that they just so happen to place the worst defensive players in defensive situations more often than not. Almost as if that usage is a direct correlation to these statistics....

I'm not sure what you're trying to suggest by saying I'm fascinated by him, but having him at less than 2 mil for 3 years is great value. Do you not remember when the league leader in hits was our second best defenseman during these most recent playoffs?

You use an argument about the value of defensive defenseman for Peeke, but can't figure out why the trade with Montreal is so lopsided in Toronto's favour? You contradict yourself in this thread.

Lol, these two things are not the same. When you look at the typical value of players like Jarnkrok and Savard it is fairly similar, and Jarnkrok's contract makes it more attractive for the Habs.

Strengthening the right side of the Leafs D, helping them shed cap and term. If you need it explained then you obviously live under a rock, cap is a premium and you need to pay to get space. Without retention maybe a 1 for 1 deal works value wise but Montreal need RHD and doesn't need aging bottom 6 forwards and you still have to pay for the retention!

The Habs are rebuilding, they're not going to be competing with the Leafs at any point during Savard's current contract, hence them trading Petry to another team in their division already. You lose all credibility when you suggest the Leafs are shedding cap and term with a guy who makes 2.1 mil for the next 3 years and just scored 20 goals last year.... Agreed that Montreal doesn't need Jarnkrok but they can likely flip him for more than Savard.

Why are these 2 trades for defensive defenseman not the same situation? If you are going to argue that the value of Jarnkrok and Savard are typically similar, then I can't wait to hear your explanation of how Peeke is typically similar in value to Liljegren plus 2 draft picks.

That's seriously your take? Because Peeke and Savard are both defensively minded they're worth the same?

Peeke just finished his 24 year old season and has a great toolset. Savard is clearly in a very different stage of his career. Nice try though I guess?

Some team will probably give you a pick for Lafferty but it won't be the Hawks.

Please show me where I said Peeke and Savard are worth the same. I am asking you to show me how Peeke is worth Lil and 2 draft picks, it was blatantly obvious in my post. Nice try, deflection so you can avoid answering the question. Regarding Savard, you are putting a higher value on defensive defenseman like Peeke than other posters, but do not extend the same value to Savard. If you think Peeke has added value because of these traits, than so does Savard. Add to that he plays a more valuable position, and is play off tested, and with your suggested retention is cheaper, than he is certainly worth more than a sub 6 ft winger who averages 12-15 goals a year and completely disappears as soon as the play offs start.

Habs have absolutely no need for another forward. Taking Jarnkok would lead us to place Ylonen on waiver an we don’t want that. Also, our RD is pretty thin

Just basing it off equivalent value, I agree for the most part. I'm just saying you could get more in return for Jarnkrok than Savard which should be the goal right now as a rebuilding team.

Retained Savard could easily get a second and a little more. I doubt Jarnkrok get that

No, you don't doubt that, or even think this if we're being honest; you're just going through the mental gymnastics to support your opinion. Thanks for your input!

Habs are adding cap for a player they don't need and are using a retention spot to help Toronto. RHD are more valuable at the deadline to, in the end of they retain on Savard it's likely next TDL and if they add any more forwards it will be for a younger one with potential as they have targeted since this management took over.

You lose all credibility when you can't do simple math. Last time I checked 1.75 mil was less than 2.1 mil. Also since Jarnkrok is signed for an extra year you are saving that 2.1 mil as well. So total savings for the Leafs is 2.35 mil. Add to that the fact that Montreal would then be paying Savard to play for the Leafs and trading him creates a hole in our lineup not and Jarnkrok would be blocking a spot for a younger player like Ylonen or another prospect who earns a spot out of camp and this is an easy pass for the Habs. You literally also said that Montreal is rebuilding and won't be competitive during Savards contract then try to trade us an even more useless peice and ask us to retain for free. Go pound salt, this is a ridiculous proposal that easily gets shot down!!!

There is no room for Lafferty on the Hawks at this point. There are too many forwards for not enough spots.

Over your head I guess? The point is he has value beyond just being a cap dump. Funny that losing Savard creates a hole but adding Jarnkrok blocks younger players. Whatever fit's the narrative I guess...

I know you don't care about the make up of other teams, but why would a team trade for another forward when they have too many already competing for bottom 9 spots. It makes no sense. Trade Laff elsewhere. This isn't fantasy hockey where you just cut players.

You're one of the worst rosters in the league, you don't have too many forwards at all and that's the point
