Lafrenière isn’t worth this. He hasn’t shown any glimpse of reaching the potential of a #1 pick so no team is going to give up that good of a prospect for him.
While this trade isn’t feasible, the basis is. The best trade comparable would be Sam Bennett when he was traded to Florida. Both guys were former high picks that were completely misused by their drafted teams and both guys couldn’t show they had any potential in their original situation. Bennett was dealt for a 2nd round pick and a former prospect who was selected in the 2nd round as well, so basically 2 assets of 2nd round value. Until Lafrenière shows any kind of positive growth or consistency, that’s the realistic trade value of him.
