Without the 2 cap dumps and AHL player Nylander might get a better return, but Seattle isn't going to trade Wright for him.

Oleksiak for Brodie and Robertson? Murray/nylander for wright first/second? It’s not going to be a one stop shop in Seattle, there’s a possibility of nylander going there, but the crease is full so Murray favour is off, 3 years of smaller salary oleksiak is better than one of brodie, they all ready got Yamamoto, so not sure of a Robertson add, so basically back to selling early on wright and what pick to add imo

This trade the Seattle gives up a three years of Olesiak, seven years of top five pick Wright, a first and a second. Leafs give up one year of Nylander, one year of Brodie, a cap dump of Murray, and Robertson

What teams can/want to give Nylander 10m?? I can think of maybe 2, NSH & PHI. Even then, I think they'd look elsewhere. Tkachuk is an animal. This is just simply trading 17m cap away

They could likely afford Murray so it would be Nylander, Brodie and Robertson for Wright and Oleksiuk and a 1st. That's certainly a huge risk by TO. Nylander is a star player with more to give still. Wright may not yet be ready to make the jump, he hasn't proven anything. He could hit though and then it's a great move for both teams likely. But I wouldn't take that risk if I was TO.

I like Nylander and he has upped his game, but even as Nylander and Leaf, I don't think he is worth 10m. Yeah maybe might pay him 10m, but I reckon that is too high and likely will so will be the term some team might give him.
Getting back to the Tkachuk trade . I liked the trade for both teams, considering the circumstances at the time. But what a massive mistake it was for the Flames to extend Huberdeau to 10.5m X 8 years which starts when he is age 30.

Part of the deal would be the cap gain, plus the first possibly add a dumba or tarasenko with the gained cap. Interesting idea anyway to get the ball rolling on getting cap compliant. I haven’t looked at seattle to see the fit.

Dont get me wrong, Brodie and Nylander have value, but to who? Who has cap space for Brodie right now? (Only non contenders/rebuilders have cap space, so why would THEY trade value for a UFA dman?).

Considering the year SEA had, they dont make this move. Considering the cap issues of the Leafs they HAVE to move murray and likely brodie this offseason. Thinking that at this point in free agency they'll get value for brodie or easily dump Murray is crazy (examples: Zadina, Yamamoto, Deangelo buyouts by teams that could easily afford the cap hits on younger players, but didnt want to and had zero value in trade even with retention)

Cap you would want to use on FA's that are not half as good as Nylander. Taransenko is declining, worse than Nylander across the board and will still cost too much. No keep Nylander

And make some adjustments to push in next few years, do love the abundance of the stay hungry, one year show me deals to keep the squad hungry. I looked at seattle, they don’t have a whole lot of room cap wise and also a rather large hole on lhd dman side if they move oleskiak, so probably back to the drawing board.
