<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockyluv21</b></div><div>It could be any cap-strapped club. I was just using Zuccarello as an example. Also, does Vancouver really want so much cash tied up in three centers, pending Horvat's extension?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockyluv21</b></div><div>I'm trying to do math here. To keep Pettersson, the Nucks may have to trade or let Horvat go in UFA if they want any depth at all. By all accounts, though, it sounds like the Nucks want to keep Horvat in the fold, so it makes me wonder what the plans are. It seems like the Canucks would benefit from allocating some of that center money to an actually-good RHD like Pesce.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockyluv21</b></div><div>I realize that is probably true. My question is about Vancouver's pending cap conundrum with Miller and likely Horvat getting long-term extensions. It seems as if reallocating that forward power to defense is a smart move from a cap perspective.</div></div>
Pettersson and Miller both play C and LW so it's very possible that only one ends up playing C. Horvat will get his contract extension, we have the cap space for that without trading anyone. If Vancouver needs to free up cap space next year, we have a few players that could be traded to do so, Garland, Boeser, etc.... No reason or need to trade Pettersson.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lambchopz</b></div><div>Bjorkstrand trade is a close comparable, this is far more than that. I love Garland but his value just isn’t that high. Unless they pay a team to take on cap dumps next year they need to move Garland (if they want Horvat to stay and to build a competent d core). I hate to say it but trade values are screwed rn, it’s the same reason a guy like Kerfoot is worth far less on the market than he actually is. Also, Garland wouldn’t even fetch a 1st at the deadline apparently, his value hasn’t gone up with one less playoff run. And, the cherry on top, Canucks have been rumoured to be looking for a “lockerroom change” and have been shopping Him.
I hate to say it, his value isn’t insane. Kerfoot was a 50 point player, almost entirely all at 5v5, and he’s worth barely anything. Bjorkstrand was a really good 2nd liner and got a 3rd and a 4th. Kulikob got traded for FC. This value totals up to close to a 1st, I don’t know how much you Nucks fans want for Garland but you aren’t getting full value</div></div>
Bjorkstrand isn't a close comparable. Columbus needed to get under the cap after signing Gaudreau. The Canucks don't have that problem. So, there's no comparison.
