Why are Flyers taking on Murray's contract for a 3 round pick upgrade?

EDIT: oh God, and 3 years down the road....

I don't get why people think Nashville wants Jarnkrok or will give up a 4th and 7th... even how minimal it is. Trotz is doing a youth movement, and taking up a roster spot for a bottom 6 forward when the young guys coming up need ice time... it just doesn't make sense for Trotz to do this. Yes they have cap space, but it doesn't mean they need to fill it.

As for everything else on this... doesn't really feel like any of these are an upgrade or improvement to anything.

Really? Leafs certainly want him....if he can stay healthy. Believe or not Robertson has played more NHL games, than other players taken above him in his draft. Seems like so many think Robertson is a bust, but not those players on other teams. Admitting his trade value is so low...Leafs are better off keeping him.
Kinda funny, you think 24 year old Abruzzee is deserving to be an NHLer, but have given up Robertson who over two years younger.

I doubt WPG acquired Vilardi without intending to sign him.

Is that really much of a flex when we're talking about 21-22 year olds? A lot of these guys are still in college, haven't come over from Europe yet, etc.

Sure there will be some busts that don't make it to as many games as Robertson has to date, but pumping a guy's tires for having played 31 games feels like desperately trying to find something positive to say about him.

And here's to you, Nicky Robertson
Tree loves you more than you will know
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Keefe bless you, please, Nicky Robertson
Hockey holds a place for those who play
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
We'd like to play you on our third line
We'd like to help you learn to not injure yourself
Look around you, all you see are pessimistic eyes
Stroll around the arena maybe wear some foam
And here's to you, Nicky Robertson
Tree loves you more than you will know
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Keefe bless you, please, Nicky Robertson
Hockey holds a place for those who play
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hide it in a corner where Willie never goes
Put it in your pants with your hemmoroid cakes
It's a little secret, just the Robertson's affair
Most of all, you've got to hide it from the trainer's
Coo, coo, ca-choo, Nicky Robertson
Tree loves you more than you will know
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Keefe bless you, please, Nicky Robertson
Hockey holds a place for those who play
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Sitting on a trainer's table on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the playoffs debate
Laugh about it, shout about it
When it's the same old news
Every way you look at this, the Leafs will lose
Where have you gone, Jeremy Bracco?
Our Leafs turns its lonely eyes to you
Woo, woo, woo
What's that you say, Nicky Robertson?
Harold Ballard has died and gone away
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Leaf Fan Delusion Syndrome. Hardly a day doen't go by where there is not a similar AGM posted dumping Murray to the Hawks with craptacular mid to later round picks or B prospects or some combo of the 2 as if teams take dumps that are owed 6 million for 3rd round picks.

????? Robertson was the youngest guy drafted in his draft year. His first year pro....he was still a junior age but Covid allowed him play in the AHL.
He's been injured for each of his three pro seasons.
So the injuries have put in behind his development. Just don't understand why folks are so harsh on an injured player, when other guys his same age haven't even seen the NHL.

There would be concerns about any player who'd amassed as many serious injuries as Robertson's had, this early in his career - regardless of what level of hockey they'd happened at.

Many players from his draft year were also in the AHL in 20-21, because of Covid. Sometimes Europeans come over to play in the A before they're 20. Robertson isn't particularly special for doing so. Given how many injuries he's had since going pro, it might have been best for his development if he'd stayed in juniors longer. Playing against fully grown men before he was able to handle it could easily have been detrimental to him.

It is weird seeing Leafs fans putting Robertson into trade proposals, because like the title of this thread says no one else wants him. If he were a waivers eligible player, I'm sure some team would take a flier on him for free. Given his injury history, lack of size and success so far though, no one's going to give up much of value for him. Given how little potential NHL talent the Leafs have in their prospect pool, and Robertson's trade value being very low, why wouldn't they just hold onto him and hope for the best?

I just don't understand your argument that he's already been in the NHL and others from his draft class haven't yet. It's not unusual for players that age to not have made their mark yet, or even turn pro yet. having three disappointing pro seasons under his belt doesn't make Robertson better than anyone who hasn't played in the NHL yet. Why does it matter if a horse is the first out of the starting gate, if they can't finish the race?
