Another guy that plays pure offensive hockey and can't play defense. Gonna be fun scoring goals against Toronto this year!

Yeah... Totally, especially after you get destroyed by Reaves, then your secondary help gets destroyed by McCabe and then you have Rielly bringing in the back end to destroy anybody who thinks of going farther...

Leafs got tougher, means forecheck is harder to break out from, means offensive gets minimized, leading to more chances for Toronto

Or Murray

Even with Murray bought out they will still have no money to re-sign Samsonov.

Trade Murray, move Roberston and Timmins down and that would be enough for Sammy to sign anything under 4.2 *I believe* million, which he's going to sign for 3.2-3.8 range

Reaves doesn't actually play good hockey. The only positive impacts he has on the ice are after the whistle, not before it.

I can send you Martin St Louis highlights in his prime, doesn't mean he can do that anymore

Okay sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v587ca15X80, forecheck; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5a-JPdIjNU, all but 1/2 are forecheck.

All of those clips within the last 2 years... He's not going to pop off for 35 points, he might not even get 15, but him on the forecheck makes others scared which will help others become more physical

Very easy deal to like. Domi has been worth at least $3M a year over the last few years, so he's a safe bet to be a good value. He's another fiesty personality, and while he's in no way a physical force, he basically replaces Michael Bunting's agitator role, with a little more willingness to fight back.

After a very rough day one of free agency, Treliving really rounded things out in day 2. Toronto isn't necessarily better (likely better offensively, weaker defensively, but grittier), but this is a team that was talented enough to win, and they really didn't take a big step back in that department, so now they are trying to change the identity and mix, and they really seem to have done that. Hard to dislike this signing or the Bertuzzi signing, as both players are worth those deals regardless of any intangibles, so when you like those as well, it's an easy win. 1 year deals also give Toronto a ton of flexibility.

Timmins isn't waivers-exempt.

Isn't there a period of time where you can bury a contract without having to clear waivers?

one of the biggest issues with the leafs was that their bottom six was too defensive minded and weren't good at scoring goals or getting into the front-of-net positions that made it easier for others to score goals. think a lot of the new signings will help address that.

don't care if the guys they brought in aren't defensive stalwarts. they've got other players to fill those positions (overpaying for one of them, mind you), and any further additions will be like ZAR; guys who come onto the roster closer to the season.

fine with the domi signing, would've been fine with an additional year but the dude plays like a broken tap so there isn't any long term commitment if he doesn't work out.

I don't think that matters. If they have to send him down to clear cap space, they'll probably be willing to take a chance on somebody claiming him. However, I think they'll look for other ways to clear cap space first. Unless they want to run with only 6 defensemen on their NHL roster, they'd have to replace him with somebody else which would save them only about $300k in cap hit.

Have they confirmed his number yet? Will he wear #28, just like his old man did?

I was just thinking about that yesterday, trying to remember which number Tie wore. CapFriendly shows Max as #11.
