Does Carolina even need Backlund? I feel like he would work well in their system, they have loads of cap space, Backlund is pretty quick and good on pk. I debated put Carolina's 24 1st instead of Philly's 24 2nd cause I have Canes winning it all next year but I figured people would tell me it's an overpay.

From all the reports coming out, it sounds like he just wants to play in the US so I don't see any issue with Buffalo re-signing him.

Here's the thing though, no UFAs are looking to sign in Buffalo, and Hanifin is a year out from being able to pick the team he wants to play on. Also Hanifin and Jack are close and I'm sure Jack is not giving Buffalo a glowing review.

He's not the biggest need in the world for us, but at that price, it wouldn't hurt. I think we could use a middle 6 center and think he would be a nice fit with us.
