trade up for michkov

Description
trade up would only happen on draft night if michkov falls past SJ, hard to gauge value as of now but could be a bidding war with washington, but philly would have more ammo. especially if TK/Laughton do get dealt. MIchkov wouldve gone 1 the past few drafts, its a no brainer to me to try to get him, whether its with montreal or arizona. the newhook deal makes things interesting as they could look to recoup the draft capital, and essentially get newhook for moving down 2 spots.

With PLD gone and a potential wheeler buy out, $ opens up for a sanheim contract, they have morrisey at LHD but ive heard they could be a destination for sanheim.

Johannson gone in Nash Laughton could wind up there, hes played both LW/C not out of the realm of possibiltiy he could fit in at C. plus laughton seems like a trotz guy especially in his islander days. gritty versatile defensive minded FW, i know the flyers are looking for a 1, it wouldnt be nashvilles pick for sure, could be EDM 1st they got for ekholm tho.

with such a weak fa class TK has a ton of value, would be a good move for the leafs, he could take buntings spot.

The FA adds, barbashev just won a cup now he gets paid and gets to be top line and put up points on a bad team and will still be in his prime by the time the flyers would compete again.

simmonds farewell tour

rodriguez depth fw/minute eater can flip at some point to a contender

a steady RD is the most important FA need this offseason for yorks development, they cannot let him just slot in aside of risto. the risto move has been a disaster (thanks chuck) they need a steady presence to play with york. a mayfield/gudas would be perfect

i cant wait for draft night fr, either habs get smith, michkov, or leonard and lets say But, and prob a 2nd in 24 while getting one of the pieces they want (Leonard at 7 in this case). i think they will try to get a deep roster if anything.

Not enough for 5. You need to assume the Habs want Michkov so the value is that of a player like Michkov. Im asking for your 2024 1st and 7th at minimum

Why would Montreal consider this?

They likely would take Michkov if he was available.

Preds pass. That's a hefty price for a 3rd liner. If other teams are willing to pay a 1st+ for Laughton then I hope it's not us

The Jets shouldn't consider moving their 1st for an LHD they don't need that has a bad long term contract. There would need to be more incentive coming from Philly.

I doubt Sanheim waives though.

Habs accept, they aren't taking Michkov anyways likely after acquiring Newhook... probably Reinbacher, Leonard, or Dvorsky

why would getting newhook stop them from getting Michkov? And why those 3 options, next best player after Michkov is Benson

it's 2 draft spots back. This is in the thinking that they don't take Michkov and want a Leonard, Benson, Dvorsky. In that case, why not gain assets on top of that. And who knows, Arizona and Washington might try and make bids of their own. It could very well end up good for Mtl. I'd be very happy with a Leonard+Gauthier/Halttunen/Fisker-Molgaard/Danielson. Then a 2nd in 2024. It's a good thought.

Because Newhook is 5'10", one of our best D prospects is 5'10", our best goal scorer is 5'7"... I can't see them acquiring Benson or Michkov to join this core they are building. Not to mention Gallagher and RHP 5'9", Ferrell too.

Size. Benson and Michkov are both 5'10 and 155ish. Newhook is 5'10 190. Adding size like Leonard is not a bad thought, and having a top 6 with Suzuki, Caufield, Benson/Michkov, Newhook would be susceptible to bully lines.

You will take your unsigned, low-level center prospect for TDA, and you will like it (Wall played for Penn State, if it means anything)

Sanheim's NTC doesn't start until July 1, so until then they can trade him wherever they want.

Ah yes the bully lines. I forgot i woke up in 1996 again. And leonard is 6ft, hes 2 inches taller than benson and michkov. Also Suzuki is heavy, slaf and dach are big so having 2 'small' guys (caufield is like 5'9 now and Michkov is 5'10, not tiny players) in the top 6 isnt gonna automatically make them soft

Did you forget Dach, Slaf? Suzuki, Roy and Beck are all nearly 6ft and heavy guys

The conn smyth winner was 5'7. Size is overrated if the skill isnt there.

Marchessault is 5'9", and played with Barbashev 6'1", Eichel 6'2", and was backed up in the top 6 by Howden 6'2", Stephenson 6'0" and Stone 6'3"... average height of top 6 = 6'1". Average height of NHL forwards = 6'1".

Caufield 5'7", Suzuki 5'11", Dach 6'4", Slafkovsky 6'3", Newhook 5'10" and Benson or Michkov 5'10"... average height = 5'11.5". It's a good margin below average forward size, not to mention 2/3 of the line is undersized (Slafkovsky and Dach can't be in every battle) and it's important to remember that Hutson will be one of the smallest defenseman in the NHL too, they will be undersized on the back end too.

That coupled with all the talk of them trying to trade down and the supposed interest in Leonard, Reinbacher etc. has me thinking they won't be taking another small forward, even if they are very talented.

You literally didn't even mention Newhook here, so make that 3 undersized players... 2 on one line potentially out there with Hutson on defence at the same time.

Agreed that Suzuki is heavy and can take a hit(Vegas series). You don't think Newhook will be in the top 6? Also, ofc there are bully lines and bigger guys. Hell, the top line struggled against Detroit's rookie giant line. I agree that size matters much less, but I'd rather have Leonard's tough style of play.

Any risk of Michkov not coming is equal to Montreal or Philly. So, Philly *should* not dump assets in a rebuild for that risk, and, IF that risk is significant, Montreal would probably rather control the 5 pick, than roll down 2 spots and not have control over the player they really want.

IF that risk is minimal, then why would Montreal sacrifice a potential 100 point Kaprizov/Panarin style player then for lesser pieces.

Any player Montreal picks at 7 or later, likely won't be ready for 2-3 years anyways, so, don't see the upside.

Any expectation that Philly would share their draft strategy, or be beholden to it is naive, Montreal would be better off taking the pick they know they can get and going from there with their rebuild.

One of the strongest power forwards of the group, and most talented, is Moore at 5'11".... Size definitely helps, but speed kills in todays NHL.

Vegas was big and mobile.... not a lot of teams have that.

They struggled because the team sucks. Size doesnt matter when you have talented 4 lines and 6 d men who are good
