Anaheim has the cap and they’re building around Zegras, they’d match that pretty easily especially with the cow going up so much in a couple seasons.

What is your thinking behind the trade idea? Katchouk is a borderline NHL player, more so an AHLer that can be depth, and Timmins has proven when he can stay healthy that he’s a good NHL defenceman. So why would Toronto add the pick? If anything it’d be Katchouk and a pick for Timmins

theyd be pretty dumb to match it, 4 firsts is already an overpay. hes very overrated

I'm not sure Chicago is in the position to offer sheet anyone with how much they need to actually become competitive. That roster is pretty much completely stripped aside from Jones and Hall now. Adding Bedard certainly helps but there's a high risk they can't compete at all for 3-4 years. Not sure you want to give up 4 lotto picks for Zegras and sign him to a monster contract.

They’re building around him and see him as a future 1V that can be a game changer. He hasn’t had much support around him so far in his career and he’s done well. Give him time and actual good linemates and he’ll be dominant.

4 picks that could be high might seem pretty enticing, but nothing guarantees those picks are high and even less guarantees that they turn out to be the player that Zegras currently is. If Anaheim let’s Zegras go to an offersheet like this it sets their rebuild back another 3-5 years.

You can’t just look at what the compensation MIGHT be for offersheets. It just doesn’t make any sense for Anaheim to lose Zegras.

4 first round picks is probbaly a good bet to find a center ho hasnt scored 25 goals yet, maybe teh fact that he can michigan is special to anaheim. Verbeek would be a fool to turn this down. plus they also get fantilli, theres your number 1 c to build around, not zegras. plus they would get 2 top 10 picks in 24

There’s no guarantee those picks are top 10. You can sit there and speculate all you want but the league is built on parody and teams surprise all the time.
No one expected Vegas to go to the finals in the first season and they did. No one expected Florida to even make playoffs this year - there was talk that they mighta gave up a top 10 pick for Chiarot - and they ended up going to the finals. You don’t bank in chance when you have a bonafide stud in your lineup that’s young and makes players better - he turned Terry into a 30 goal scorer. Thats his skill. It doesn’t matter if he hasn’t scored 25 goals in a season yet, that’s because other teams target him cause Anaheim doesn’t have any other good centres to defend. Zegras makes the players around him better which is the best skill a player can have in the league.

Mitch Marner had 1 season of 25+ goals in his first 5 seasons and he’s had back to back 30 goal seasons now.. players take time to develop. But both those players make the players around them better which is something you can’t teach. You don’t give that away when you have it.

theres a good chance fanitilli will be better than zegras, build around him, even if anaheim loves him so much, you take the 4 firsts overpay any day of the week. hes not worth that at all

mitch was/is better defensively than zegras.

like i said before, you give it away if its 4 firsts for a player that doesnt warrant that return. end of story. he isnt mcdavid mackinnon matthews level not even close

Nylander didn’t score more than 25 goals until his 5th season and isn’t good defensively. But he again has the same skill of making players better and dominating play. Give Zegras time. You’re harsh to judge a kid 3 years into the league when he’s had no support around him.

Hawks are not spending four 1st rounders for Zegras. And they aren't signing Ghost or Lyon as UFA's. Hawks probably make that trade. Not sure the Leafs do though.
