PLD isn't going to Montreal to make more than their franchise captain, nor is Hughes moving Guhle for an overrated 2C

Guhle is alright, but isn't a need for Winnipeg as an LHD and dumping Dvorak hurts that value for Montreal. Montreal is better off keeping Guhle.

I'd imagine the Jets trade PLD to fill team needs, not to clog up their position of greatest depth more. They definitely wouldn't be adding DeMelo to take back a bad contract.

If you consider percentage of cap when the deal was signed, I'm not sure this is technically more. You are buying up UFA years, and they are simply more expensive.

As for Guhle, he's a good young player, but then so is Dubois. If you project 1-2 years out... Who is your #1 LHD? Hutson is the guy most fans are pinning their hopes on. Do you project Guhle to be better than Hutson? Are you moving Matheson?

Having good players and Maximizing the value of those players is critical. This trade is really not dissimilar to Dach for Romanov, except that both Dubois and Guhle are better than Dach and Romanov were at the time they were traded.

I hear you Windjammer, but what are you gonna do. Habs and Jets have the same organizational strengths and weaknesses. We can't trade you the players we do have without opening holes. We can't trade you the players we don't have, and your GM does not want picks.

You've outlined exactly why PLD likely won't be traded to Montreal. The Jets can get a more suitable package elsewhere.

Guhle is going to be fantastic, but this would leave Winnipeg with one RSD in their top 6, so it would be a no.

Some Montreal fans have really been scrambling for something to support their fantasy since it came out that PLD is willing to go to other teams than Montreal.

Some Winnipeg fans really been living rent rent free on CapFriendly expecting to get a massive package for an overrated diva.

Projecting 2 years out is a mistake, Hutson may be the Habs 1LD then (I seriously doubt he will be more than a 2nd pairing D since he wont be put out against the likes of McDavid and Matthews to get ran over every shift) but he could also be another Mete. Guhle is a known commodity and one who brings size, skating and a well rounded defensive game. He may never put up the offensive numbers that Hutson could but 40-50 points isn't out of the question either. For me he is the Habs future 1LD, he is kind of a cross between Weber and Petry and both of them were 1 D men. Better off to trade futures or Engstrom over Guhle. If you are insistent on moving Guhle send him somewhere in need of a top 4 LHD and get an equally good young top 4 RHD back, then use Barron to trade for Dubois.

Fair insights. Obviously we see the future of this Blue Line differently but I appreciate you sharing your logic, rather than simply telling me off like most of the commentors.
