Description
Hard to find a way to bring back Bertuzzi without moving another forward. A smart GM doesn't trade Hall when his stock is low and he's signed for multiple years at what could still prove to be a reasonable amount. DeBrusk is a pending UFA who will command more than Bertuzzi does now and I am not at all convinced that DeBrusk is the better player when both are healthy. I think you take this risk when the players are similar, signing Bertuzzi costs you nothing, and trading DeBrusk nets you a nice haul.

Grzelcyk has to go as the highest paid of the expendable D. I think Lohrei and OEL make up for his loss seamlessly. Hopefully Reilly can be traded without any additional cost.

Frederic, who has arb rights after a breakout season, signs a long-term extension.

Swayman takes an affordable one-year deal with the promise of a long-term extension when the cap goes up.

Hathaway takes a pay cut to stay with his hometown team long-term.

OEL joins the team he's always wanted to play for on a one-year "show-me" deal with the potential for a multi-year extension.

Bergeron and Bonino sign one-year, 35+ deals at the minimum base with bonuses, chasing one last chance at the Cup.

Lysell and Lohrei - and to a lesser extent Lauko and Steen - are given a shot to begin the season. Veteran AHL reinforcements are brought in as security. Most have ties to the area.

I don't disagree at all with those that say Merkulov is the most pro-ready top-nine forward in the system, but I think he's best suited at center or at least LW and the biggest need to balance the lineup is at RW. Merkulov is the first call up in case of injury.

Why is every single UFA giving Boston a discount? In some cases by many millions of dollars by Bertuzzi.

The Sharks aren't trading for Grzelcyk. They aren't trading anything for a 1 year rental, let alone three draft picks.

Given the cap constraints around the league, I think you'll be surprised how many "discount" deals there will be this year. Bertuzzi needs to prove he can stay healthy. The postseason showed he can produce in Boston and if he can stay healthy he will be able to command much more in just a couple years when he is still on the right side of 30. I don't think you will see Bertuzzi get too much term or too much money given his injury history.

Yeah, I had it in my mind that terms of an extension would be worked out here. Sharks definitely don't need a rental. I think a Karlsson trade is imminent and the Sharks will need a Grz-style player long-term.

There is no realistic scenario where NSH gives up 15OA for DeBrusk.

The cap constraints are consistent every year. Only the Bruins are in exceptionally unique cap limitations. Mostly due to their overage bonuses. MANY teams would outbid Boston on that Bertuzzi contract. And it ignores every other nickel and dime contract offer you've created. Also the cap space is so limited that any injury guarantees no call ups without LTIR. Not to mention, every trade you've made likely gets rejected.

You’re returns are wildly optimistic to laughable. No way is a rebuilding San Jose giving up two 2nds for a rental at a position they don’t even need. In fact, they counter with pastrnak for Vlasic

Still a definite no. He's 29 and plays LD which just adds to the logjam of Vlassic, Ferraro, Knyzvhov, Simek, Macdonald, Thurn, Ohkotiuk, Mukh and Knaizev, while doing nothing to fill the void at RD that EK65 will leave. We'd be trading assets that are extremely valuable to us right now, to acquire one player who doesn't fit a need and who's best remaining years will happen before we're competitive again. And that's IF he signed an extension, which he wouldn't do when he could sign for half a dozen different playoff teams when the cap goes up next summer.

Now, if you want to change Grzelcyk to Carlo the Sharks would likely be interested, but we know that's not going to happen.

Not much about this is realistic tbh. Lysell and Lohrei are unlikely to be ready for the NHL, unless they go absolutely crazy in training camp and force their way onto the team. Swayman, Hathaway, and Bertuzzi at all making at minimum at least 1 mil more then you have then down here, Swayman and Bert probably closer to 2 mil. Sharks don't need Gryz, they have tons of LHD already. You could get a first for Debrusk if you trade him imo, but not from the Preds. And Reilly will almost certainly cost assets to dump. Unfortunate truth is there's just no feasible way for us to run back a roster with all 3 of Marchand, Hall, and Bertuzzi. Don't have the luxury of a 6mil 3LWer this year.
