Discount Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Scooter81</b></div><div>Can’t really see any possible way that Lauko starts instead of Greer.</div></div>
Really? Greer is turning 27 this season and only has about 100 NHL games to his credit. This season he had 12 points in 61 games/556 minutes (.022 points per minute) and for every five minutes he spent on the ice he spent a minute in the box. In contrast, Lauko is 23 and had 7 points in 23 games/204 minutes (.034 points per minute) and also had more hits and takeaways relative to time on ice and did so without getting in penalty trouble. You can also tell just by watching that he is faster and more skilled. Greer's greatest asset is his cap hit and he is a great bench option for that reason, but Lauko should absolutely be given a starting opportunity before Greer. I would make the same case for a handful of other prospects as well.

Realistic Re-Tool

Yeah, I had it in my mind that terms of an extension would be worked out here. Sharks definitely don't need a rental. I think a Karlsson trade is imminent and the Sharks will need a Grz-style player long-term.

Realistic Re-Tool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Why is every single UFA giving Boston a discount? In some cases by many millions of dollars by Bertuzzi.</div></div>
Given the cap constraints around the league, I think you'll be surprised how many "discount" deals there will be this year. Bertuzzi needs to prove he can stay healthy. The postseason showed he can produce in Boston and if he can stay healthy he will be able to command much more in just a couple years when he is still on the right side of 30. I don't think you will see Bertuzzi get too much term or too much money given his injury history.

Now How To Keep This Team Together
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Well, even at that, it's highly impractical, Bertuzzi signing for so little. Swayman could be offer sheeted for much more. And if the bonuses from 22/23 carryover into into 23/24, that's even less cap.</div></div>
Obviously everything is contingent on how much the cap goes up and the bonus carryover. Just working with what we have right now to try to project how this team can work without being dismantled like the 2010 Blackhawks. The hope is that Swayman and Bertuzzi understand the cap situation and the potential major jump in 2024 and sign what basically amount to bridge deals. I also think Bertuzzi will need a "prove it" deal if he doesn't light it up in the playoffs this year. As for Swayman, if he is willing to sign a long-term offer sheet at a price that he's really worth, it probably means at least a first and third are coming back. Or maybe the B's trade him before then for more, who knows. The play of Ullmark and the development of Bussi and Keyser is certainly encouraging if they go that route. But really I don't think Swayman signs an offer sheet for anything less than a long-term deal and is content to stick with the plan of signing his big money deal in 2024 and supplanting Ullmark in 2025.

And? I didn't trade Frederic or claim Comtois was replacing him. In fact, I recognize that Frederic is the more versatile player and can center the fourth line whereas Comtois needs to be a top-nine winger to be effective. You need some redundancy in the playoffs, especially when it comes to size and scoring.

You very well might be right but I'd rather hold on to him now than give him away for nothing. He has another year left on his contract, so time for his trade value to go back up. If they can get away with keeping him, I think they will.

I'd prefer the flexibility to carry 23 players and I am not confident that Steen clears waivers, especially not multiple times. But by trading Nosek and replacing him with someone cheaper and burying Foligno and Wags, they are at 23, cap compliant, and aren't giving away Reilly.

Not sure they want to sell Reilly and if they do it will be for at least a third-round pick. Reilly is a fine cap value and there would be interest.

They don't need to trade anyone right now, but it would be better to do it now than in-season imo. Foligno won't be traded, but can go to Providence. I agree that Reilly is the most likely to be traded. Nosek could also go if one of the young kids or a UFA like Evan Rodrigues, Johan Larsson, Victor Rask, Sam Gagner, etc. can impress on a PTO. Nosek could also go to Providence.
If you want a cheap defenseman, go De Haan or Ryan Murray.

I actually love the idea of Kessel on this team under Montgomery as the replacement for Marchand while he's out and then as a plug-and-play offensive boost and PP2 asset. Have to make a trade first and then convince him to take a cheap deal and accept that when the roster is fully healthy he's probably skating on the fourth line, but worth the shot imo.
The ship has sailed on Z. Even if someone like Reilly gets traded, I would look at De Haan, Ryan Murray, or even Stralman before Chara.

Being in the LTIR allows you to exceed the cap by the amount of that contract. The Bruins have to be in the LTIR to begin the year anyway but rather than trying to put together a roster that fits under 82.5 once everyone is healthy, you’re instead working with 86.7 because Klefbom is permanently injured.

One Last Run With The Old Guard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>beantownboy17</b></div><div>Interesting plan, here are my thoughts:
-I don't love Radulov as a 1st liner but I'm intrigued. His great season was 4 years ago, it could have been Montgomery but he's still past his prime, though you never know.
-I like getting Santini as I do think he's a Clifton level defenseman, but I love Lauko and would like to keep him. Maybe for Curtis Hall instead? Just a player swap?
- I love Dobby but Foligno isn't going to have his NMC, he wants to be in Boston. We're stuck with him.
- I wanted us to get Yandle last year, I say bring him in. He may not be reliable defensibly but he is the most reliable player in the league.
All in all, great analysis and plan for the season</div></div>
Thanks. Only note: Foligno’’s NMC expired. He’s down to a limited No-Trade. I think if his options are Providence of trade he’ll be willing to help find a new home. Also, I liked Lauko too but he’s coming off a bad year and sliding down the depth chart. Might be time to use his name value to flip him.

If the Bruins added Bailey, they could trade Craig Smith for capital so I wouldn't say it's an absolute no. However, there either needs to be $2MM in retained salary or a much higher pick for that extra work to be worth it. Or you could take Nick Foligno.

Bruins decline. They aren't rebuilding, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't trade DeBrusk for a top pick and/or top prospect. This just isn't that.

Remove the retained salary, make it a 2023 second, and get Puljujarvi to agree to that $2.5MM AAV and I would take that if I'm the Bruins.

do NOT torch me over this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>If his request holds is irrelevant. Sweeney has already shown he's not going to move DeBrusk for the sake of moving him. Trading DeBrusk leaves a hole at 1RW as well as leaves a 20G-25G hole in the roster. That $3 million in open cap isn't going to net a player that fills that 1RW spot. I'd argue that White is even a downgrade on Smith. White's best season was 4yrs ago where he had 41pts in 71gp. Smith this year put up 36pts in 74gp while having what many considered an underwhelming year. So you've worsened your 3rd line and have a hole you need to fill on your top line, just to get a prospect that plays a position that isn't really a true need right now.</div></div>
Eventually the Bruins WILL trade DeBrusk if he demands it. That's just how it goes in sports. And what I am saying is that Greig is likely a better prospect than anyone they could get in a straight-up trade for DeBrusk, including from a draft pick. And the tradeoff is Foligno for White? I would take it. White has considerable issues, his contract being the biggest one, but he's 25, from Boston, and certainly has more upside than Foligno. And Foligno and Smith are both expensive, impending free agents as well and Smith can be dealt for decent assets and cap space, more than enough room to replace DeBrusk.

I don't know if I agree with this. This trade opens up $3MM without having to give anything up to move Foligno. If DeBrusk's trade request holds, the best the Bruins could hope for in a trade is likely a first-round pick, and that's what Greig is. He immediately becomes the Bruins' best LW prospect by a mile. White has been underwhelming and injury-prone, but his best chance of turning things around could be back home in Boston. And if the B's see him as a bottom-six RW only, they can move Craig Smith for another decent pick and an additional $3.1MM in cap space, bringing the total resulting from this deal to over $6MM. That's more than enough to find a DeBrusk replacement in free agency.

The Bruins would never trade Pastrnak within the division. However, if they did then this offer wouldn't cut it. White is not a valuable asset, especially to a cap-strapped team, Brannstrom hasn't panned out, and Pinto/Jarventie can't be the centerpiece prospect. Bruins need a top-six center, a top defense prospect, and two first-round picks. So something like Norris/Stutzle, Bernard-Docker/Thomson, Greig/Jarventie and 2022 and 2023 firsts would start the conversation.

I don't think the Bruins will move Grz. He's a local kid with ties to the organization. Plus his value is down after his playoff performance and an injury that could have him out to begin 2022-23.
With that said, swap Grz for Mike Reilly and Walman for Gustav Lindstrom and I would make that deal 10 times out of 10.
