PLD Why we still havent signed Davidson

Équipe: 2023-24 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 17 juin 2023
Publié: 17 juin 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
I was expecting Mtl to sign Davidson right after memorial cup. Interestingly, he is still unsigned.
I am suggesting he's currently being used as a bargaining chip for PLD.
He's a WHL player, that Winnipeg will for sure know very well. I honestly think this is going to tempt Winnipeg.

Not really. The price, after the news that PLD won’t sign for at all for WPG, was seen as FLA 1st and Kidney. Here, you get a very steady D that can play in both positions, who is easily worth a 1st. You also get Davidson, who is looking very good so far

I'm not saying it won't happen, I just feel bad for WPG. Their WHL team left for the states yesterday too!

Davidson is using his ability as an upcoming unsigned junior UFA, to sign wherever he wants. His stats looks nice, but there must be a reason he wasn't signed previously by the Habs to a pro contract and to be playing in the AHL in 22/23. Likely he not considered NHL good enough despite impressive junior stats.

The Moose are the Jets AHL team and are owned by the Jets owners.

The Ice were moved from Cranbrook a few (4 or 5 yrs I think?) years ago to Winnipeg with the understanding that they'd build a proper WHL arena but the pandemic happened and inflation hit the construction industry it became out of reach for the owners.
Apparently they were also expecting or wanting government to come to the table with some cash for an arena but that wasn't happening. They had been playing out of the University of Manitoba arena which isn't up to WHL standards.

Its too bad, they had a pretty good team but couldn't get the off ice stuff figured out. Having a WHL team in Winnipeg might of helped the Jets lackluster scouting... 🙄

The hesitation might be his stats were inflated being on a team with NHL...(5) 1st rounds picks, (2 I think) 2nd round picks, and POTENTIALLY (3) more ~2nd round picks in this upcoming draft.

Thanks for the insight......Gee didn't realize WHL Seattle was THAT stacked. As we have seen for decades, stats from junior, NCAA, European leagues and even the AHL don't mean all that much. It's the ability to play on the NHL level which makes/breaks players. IMO what keeps back players not making that step in the NHL is the lack of foot quickness and the lack of decision making quickness. When I attend Marlie games, and you can get down to ice level and observe closely, it's amazing how fast the pace of the game is. Even quicker in the NHL.

Oh jeeze. Yea I didnt realise Seattle TBirds was so stacked. Funny you mention it, I think Davidson is really slow and his footspeed isn't good enough to catch up. Maybe he can work on it, but he was slow even in the WHL.

Only Habs homers thought the 31st and Kidney could get you Dubois.

And, as has been reported countless times now, he has a list of 5 or 6 teams he is willing to sign long term with. He is not being gifted to Montreal.

correct and honestly if hughes can move up and get a center he wont trade for dubois.\ who will want tooo much money....if they cant trade up then he would be considered. Dubois will likely go to LA as they have a better package of young players ready for the nhl.
