Forbs isn't necessarily a cap dump - he was great for us this year. You do realize that Chicago has to get to the cap floor?

And they have about 9 picks in the first three rounds - the 4th rounder isn't much for Chicago to give up to get a solid defender

There is also literally zero reason for us to give up a pick for someone we could easily replace in FA. We are not obligated to help you fix your Cap issues.

Forbort is a solid vet, on a reasonable contract with no commitment beyond next year, for a team (Chicago) who has a need at the position... Forbort is better than Tinordi and he is your top paid LD right now

You also realize that the team that is desperate in this situation is Boston right? You NEED cap space, the hawks do not NEED Forbort.

You got the pick going the wrong way in the forgot trade. Hawks decline either way. They have no need for LD.

Some team will give you a pick for Forbert but it won't be the Hawks. If they dont use all 8 picks in the first three rounds to actually draft players, they'll use some of those picks to move up in rounds 1 and 2. Hawks aren't using picks to acquire cap. They'll have no trouble reaching the cap floor taking on a bad contract or two that they do get paid to take and signing a couple of UFA's. As for their left side, they've got two rookies, Vlasic and Phillips, who are NHL ready. And bringing back Caleb Jones is definitely possible too.
