Devils say no thank you

Not sure why TOR fans think Marner is worth that much. He has 2 years before he can hit free agency so almost a rental. No reason the Devils would send Bratt who they have RFA control of and Nemec who is a top tier defensive prospect. I understand that Marner is better than Bratt but still not worth it for the Devils.

Both teams decline. For the Ducks, Matthews doesn't fit their timeline and I doubt they'd want to be rid of the 2OA pick(unless they're trading up).
For the Devils, Nemec is a 2OA pick and I just can't see him getting shipped off.

Why would Anaheim, coming off their worst year in franchise history, give up Fantilli and Drysdale for one year of Matthews?

If Auston Matthews is going to sign a new contract with us in 2024, he's much more likely to do so without having suffered through the 2023-2024 season with us. Plus, he's much more likely to do so if his proposed linemate is 2023 second-overall draft pick Adam Fantilli than somewhat more used rental Adam Henrique.

Well Anaheim isn’t giving up one of those two assets you want for Matthews which then leaves us at Matthews for FC — we accept that

After seeing so many of these Matthews trades it's become apparent the TML have to pay him.

Does it come out to $13x8? I don't know.

But between navigating his upcoming NMC, the cap and teams that are willing to part with appropriate assets, I don't see any trade partners.

We have seen this Bratt/Nemec for Marner thing a few times now. No thank you.

Knies/Marner for Bratt might be appealing though.

Or Marner at 50% for Bratt extended.
