Chiarot doesnt “suck” like most people say but, I also don’t agree with your overly enthusiastic opinion overall.

Chariot is a bottom pairing defenceman that lacks skill. He was great in the playoffs one year when he was allowed to crosscheck anyone near the net but has been a disappointment ever since. He’s overpaid for the role he should be in.

Yeah, he’s like exactly a 5th defenseman. Can fill in higher in the lineup in short term situations but, the moment you’re relying on him for anything beyond that is where it becomes an issue. His lack of offensive anything is his biggest downfall.

But in regards to the return, you cannot ignore the depth of the 2023 draft. Just because DeBrincat went for the 7OA last year does not mean that is now the going rate. I seriously doubt anybody moves a top 10 pick this year or even a top 15 pick for a current player, unless it’s for a superstar.

Bratt has one year of RFA left. He’s younger than Fiala and I expect him to get slightly more than Fiala because we aren’t as cap crunched and a B grade prospect or high marquee rental to replace Bratt on the right wing. The winger market is not as expensive as you may think. We got Timo Meier without surrendering any blue chippers.
