Yeah, and how did that Debrincat trade pan out? he's certainly not worth that now.
Sanheim however is a top 4 dman who is just now entering his prime. His numbers last year I think can be attributed to playing in his 3rd system in 4 years, and a very demanding one when it comes to Torts. I think people who watch philly or get to watch them in our division, see his talent. It seemed that he put it all together last year, but took a step back this year. I expect him to revert back to his progression trends from 19-20 to 21-22. I think league wide he is viewed as certainly who is worth more than a 1st. A 1st and a high level prospect for sure. In a few years, his cap hit will be less and less of an issue, and if he does revert back to that trend, he is a steal at that cap hit. meaning, he would revert to a borderline top pairing dman but certainly a top 3.
And Farabee would also certainly fetch more than a 1st. First, he's only 23. He is coming off an injury he sustained in the middle of his summer training regimen and rushed back to be able to play in game 1 of the regular season with a VERY abbreviated training camp and no preseason games. He was clearly hampered by that but still managed to play all 82. he did take a step back points wise, but his defensive game was great, he really added a good element there under Torts. Getting his offensive game back, and he certainly is a guy capable of putting up 30 goals, again, would be a steal for someone.
Clayton Keller is not worth those two roster players, Brink, AND another 1 or 2 firsts. Just isn't. As I said, asinine.
Well first, I only looked up their numbers this year.
Last 3 years (5v5, 500+ min), going backwards from 2022 to 2020
Farabee:
Expected Goals:
11 (192nd), 9.4 (224th), 10 (42nd)
Corsi:
46% (312th), 46% (317th), 51% (120th)
Expected Goals Against per 60:
2.97 (329th), 2.76 (322nd), 2.32 (176th)
So Farabee looked good in 2020 but doesn't seem to good since. Note: 2022 was his worst defensive year.
Last 3 years (5v5, 500+ min):
Sanheim:
Expected Goals:
6 (19th), 5.4 (30th), 4.2 (11th)
Defensive Zone Giveaways:
31 (160th), 38 (181st), 28 (143rd)
Corsi:
47% (144th), 47% (153rd), 54% (18th)
Expected Goals Against per 60:
2.86 (157th), 2.79 (180th), 2.11 (38th)
So there is a similar story here. Really good in 2020. Not great since.
It seems to me that Farabee is worth more because he is younger and cheaper. That said, he probably isn't worth a 1st. I say probably due to his youth and potential.
Advanced stats disagree with your opinion of both players. That said, you are entitled to your opinion. You watch them play. Guys outperform their advanced stats all the time and may look better on the eye test.
