Do you really need a 3C that bad? If so, I think that’s a fine package for JEEK but I don’t think Minny does it because they are so barren at C.

You have two great centers don't sell assets to add a guy who has to sit that much. Sign a guy, trade for someone who isn't that expensive. Trading a Rd who plays 18 minutes a night is just not smart.

I would not like the idea of selling Marino, so I am with you on that. Just curious. I could see a scenario where we buy a very good center to play 3C to ease matchups on Jack and Nico. I don’t know what that would look like…but we were really down to 2 lines and McLeod’s line in playoffs. Rolling four full lines may require a 3C who is a step better than Haula.

He would be an interesting addition if he is taking a discount.

JEE would be 3rd center. I don’t think I am underrating him here as I offered a fairly solid package for him.

My think is this…

Teams are adapting to Hughes and playing their best defensive units against him. Hischier is often deployed in defensive situations or to counter opponents top lines. So there are a bunch of situations where our third line could end up with favorable match-up, but our 3rd line wasn’t good enough to fully capitalize on a mismatch. In the Carolina series, it feel to our fourth line (Wood, Bastian, McLeod) who looked better offensively than they had in a while. If we had a legit 3rd line that could play similarly style as Hughes and Hischier lines , we may have been able to do more in those minutes that made McLeod look like an offensive stud.

Trading a top shutdown D for a depth 3C is a bad step on depth. Very bad.

The McLeod line looked good in Carolina series because they were throwing their best defensive players at Hughes and Hischier. Imagine if we had a 3C that could actually put up some offense in those mismatches. So I do think adding a quality 3C could help.

Losing Marino, yeah, I agree. Wouldn’t want to lose him.

I don't like the idea of trading Holtz as much as I used to.

I don’t think it’s a given either way. If I had to handicap, I’d say about 35-40% chance he is back in NJD next year.

He works well in Brunette’s system. I would not be surprised to see Severson go wherever Brunette ends up.
