I agree it’s not a great value for TOR, but they are at a point in which they need to trade Marner for the sole purpose of sending a message.

Great! I don’t see why Trouba wouldn’t accept for BUF, they are right next door and have a better window!

Most likely but I would prefer he takes a 2 way contract and trains in the minors for half a season.

Marner > Panarin and Goodrow has a horrible contract for an average on ice product. TOR laughs. Are you also forgetting the age gap between Marner and Panarin. Marner has WAY more value

Isnt the missus working in NYC? Thats the whole reason for the deal in the first place.

It's just plain terrible value and sending a message is useless when the message is "we made the team worse on purpose and didn't even get futures out of jt"

I don’t think Toronto will have many options if they move Marner. He has ghosted in the playoffs for 3 straight seasons.

Yes but you may not get a better offer for Marner. Just take it or leave it.

I don’t think they should move Marner. Tavares/Nylander should be one to move. Panarin just went on his longest pointless streak of career. I don’t think teams are the highest on him rn if anything

TOR says no and holds onto Selke finalist
BUF says no- but might reconsider if Mrs Trouba gives thumbs up and NYR retain 2M
NYR better say no....I'm guessing trust has a lot to do with player development. Human decency should be a given. Right now he has neither.

He isn’t a cap dump. A buyout gives back more cap space than his cap hit. The buyout is the way to go unless someone pays for him

If you're pondering a buyout on a player then he most certainly is a cap dump. You would have to attach an asset to move him. His contract is not good.

If you buy him out the cap hit is a combined 9.5 mil until 2031 lol. So yeah +100k for the first year then over a mil in cap hit until 2031. Also in 2026 it's the full cap hit. Buying him out doesn't sound so good after all with serious raises for Miller and Laf on the way with all those bad contracts

That’s fair. Even though Nylander is lazy and Tavares is washed, they at least look like players who belong at NHL level. Marner just doesn’t, he looks like Lafreniere most nights.
