Trying To Use The 2015-16 Model To Build A Cup Winner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>why would PIT trade anything for a guy they can't resign that isn't worth his value?</div></div>
Probably to get rid of the sieve and the guy that has 35 points in 67 games with another 4 years left.

He would love Rakell tbh, he is very much a Domi/Bertuzzi type player.
TOR needs a goalie and for a long time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>imawesome</b></div><div>Marner is getting massively undervalued here. Even if he's in the last year of his contract he's still a 95 pt player. That's worth WAY more than a meh goalie and a meh winger, both of which could easily be a cap dump as soon as next year</div></div>
Fair enough, but I just think knowing Treliving's track record, he'll be desperate to get a goalie.
And he definitely like Rakell, even if he's 32, but he fits the profile of players he's been acquiring at forward (Domi, Bertuzzi) who are great in transition, great at forechecking and can score goals.

Maybe they wouldn’t but I would have traded him for a bag of pucks. I’ve wanted him out since the 2021 debacle.

Fair, I guess without the Sergachev injury TBL don’t need a LHD anyway, they need a RD behind Cernak.

On top of it, why do you think PIT would have traded a goalie to NJ if they thought they still had a chance.</div></div>
I am not a believer in Jarry, the guy has lost his spot to Nedeljkovic and makes 5x5.

Well Carter for Samsonov is essentially cap dump for dump.
Graves would be good for Toronto because they need defencemen, and Jarry is a top goalie.

My Hindsight 2018-19 Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>The flaw in your plan is that Buffalo did not want Aston Reese. They were attracted to the goal scoring potential that Sheary had. At the time they saw a potential 20 goal man they could get for peanuts because Pittsburgh needed cap space. What’s funny is despite the fact that he didn’t score 20 goals Buffalo still won the trade because they gave up next to nothing and got useful players that you couldn’t afford.</div></div>
Obviously in hindsight Sheary is better than ZAR but at the time, ZAR was coming out of college averaging a goal per game. I believe that he was on an ELC, he would have been more enticing for Buffalo to take on as a sweetener for Hunwick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AntiAnalytics</b></div><div>But you’d have to hit HR after HR on those guys, and most don’t turn it around to the point where’d they’d be the help u need
Again, i know it would be hard, but u shouldn’t try to band-aid up a broken bone. Too many teams do that & it just prolongs the suffering. U don’t wanna wait until Crosby, Malkin, etc lose all their trade value. If u do that, your rebuild will just be longer & much harder to get back on top. Gotta get as many high end young assets as fast as u can imo</div></div>
Obviously there are injury and effort concerns with some players, but when you are picking up reclamation projects, you are more likely to hit a home run if you've identified that the player's characteristics complement the system and the players around them.
Like Hagelin, Schultz, Daley and Cole were awful before joining the Penguins, but their characteristics suited Sullivan's system of being a fast-paced team shot-blocking team that attacks off the rush, and so we were able to win the cup. A good coach can make you hit home runs more easily, like Rich Tocchet has done in VAN.
