Canucks easily decline. Hughes is untouchable, but if he were to be traded for whatever reason then the return would be a lot more than that. If the Canucks really did shop him, you'd have a plethora of other teams to beat out, nothing you've included makes this offer special enough to beat those teams.

Hughes was great defensively this year. People still think he sucks defensively because of the bubble season. If you’re taking someone out for a lack of defensive ability it’s Karlsson or Josi, not Hughes

He was fine defensively this year, not great. And while that's a step in the right direction it's not a push on guys who are legit elite 2 way guys. Hughes might get there, maybe even next season but he's not yet.
Either way, 'arguably the 5th best defender in the weaker conference' is a train, bus and a taxi away from top 5 in the league

I’d say he’s top 5 in the west, and top 10 in the league. Not quite an elite two way guy yet but on his way there with how he’s significantly improved in his own zone every season since the bubble
