        I view Sanheim and Weegar as very, very similar players with similar situations. Main reason I'd see Philly trying something like this is due to complete lack of RHD to a point where I think they'd overpay for him

        And Weegar was amazing for Calgary. I do not see him being available. Only Dmen I see being traded is Kylington(if he is able to come back for next season) Hanifin and Tanev(and only if they refuse to resign). We have many other players that can be moved for cap, and we have no reason to trade Weegar

        Then you view them wrong. Sanheim is nowhere near as good as Weegar. Weegar was once again one of the top defensive defensemen in the league this year

        It's not technically a 2nd from Arizona, Philly will be receiving a compensatory pick for not signing Jay OBrien, so he's just adding a second for aesthetics I believe

        If a NCAA player who was drafted in the 1st round signs with another team, the original team gets a 2nd round pick

        I agree Weegar is better (hence why I added Brink), but you're being disingenuous if you're really going to claim Sanheim is "nowhere near as good"

        Would Philly have any interest in Hanifin or Zadorov?
        Hanifin would certainly cost (more than the above), but could be a good fit.
        Zadorov is in the Philly mould and would be less expensive than the trade above.
        Both players the Flames would consider moving for offence I would think.

        Hanifin 100%. The flyers already have Deslauriers and Lemieux and Risto on the back end, so Zadarov would be redundant.

        What would a trade start with in your eyes for Hanifin.

        PS. This is all hypothetically based on if we miraculously land 1 or 2 in the draft and can speed up the process a bit.

        The Flames need a few solid hockey trades right now - not really interested in futures since they are committed to not rebuilding (that's an argument for a different day).

        I would think the target for Calgary would be Konecny, then balance out the trade as needed. Guessing that's not of great appeal to Philly fans though. Calgary needs Top 6 scoring forwards. Looking closer at the Philly roster, I'm not sure there is anyone Calgary would want that Philly would be willing to part with as part of a Hanifin trade.

        If Philly was interested in the inclusion of a B-level prospect of the Flames or Vladar, then maybe the appeal of going a bit younger and building in an area of need (D) using an area of strength (F) might appeal to them.

        I know that Torts really likes TK and I would be shocked he was moved. But hypotheticals are always fun.

        So the base is TK and Hanifin. What are the views on Calgary of Sanheim or Provorov? I'm getting at a blockbuster here to also include Lindholm. Would it start at TK, one of the dmen, and a prospect? Draft picks? Another top 6 forward? is it even plausible? Is Farabee of interest? Atkinson? Frost?

        This is fun.

        Haha... Agreed! Always fun to play GM.

        If Calgary was moving Hanifin, its because he is going to want a raise after next season and the Flames have too much tied up in other players - Weegar is basically taking Hanifin's $$. In moving him, the thinking would be that Kylington can come back next year and regain his form, but that's no guarantee. So though there could be a hole to fill in the top 4, the contracts of Sanheim and Provorov would be hard to fit in. With some retention on Provorov, maybe, but only if it meant getting the Top 6 forward we covet.

        Adding Lindholm brings in a WHOLE new dimension. He is Calgary's key trade chip - if they decide to trade him. Calgary would need a #1 centre to replace him. Maybe that come come from elsewhere, but hard to include him in a trade without knowing for sure there is a replacement.

        If Lindholm was a target - I suspect the starting ask would be something like Konecny, Forester, Frost, Pick. Lindholm is on a great contract for next year.

        Frost intrigues me, but I wonder what it would look like as part of a Hanifin trade. Anyone else on the Flames that interest you? Mangipane, Toffoli, Vladar, Dube, Kadri, Ruzicka...

        Hanifin ++
        Konecny, Frost, Provorov (included if needing to make salary work)

        ::rolls up sleeves::

        Frost took a huge step this year and I would love to see him play a full year as kind of a 2C, with wingers like Tippett or Foerster - his 200 foot game really improved this year under Torts. I would definitely retain on Provy with only 2 years left, that would be fair and add some value to him.

        If i was looking at your roster, without Elias, I would be interested in a guy like Toffoli but I dont think would fit our timeline. Getting younger guys like Hanifin fits into where our current crop of younger players are, the 21-25 range, and Hanifin being only a year older. I've always loved Dube's game as well.

        Without Elias:
        Hanifin, Dube, Toffoli, 4th round pick

        TK, Frost, Provorov (2 mil retained), protected top 5 1st rounder

        With Elias:
        Hanifin, Elias, Dube

        TK, Frost, Farabee, Provorov (2.5 mil retained), A-/B+ prospect, 2024 Fla 1st round pick

        Thoughts? I could be way off, who knows....

        Hanifin ++
        Konecny, Frost, Provorov (included if needing to make salary work)

        Toffoli is a weird one for the Flames too. Do we resign him? Strange to ask that question about the top goal scorer on the team. I think ultimately they do - especially if Sutter is sticking around.

        In both of the trades I feel like Calgary is giving up too much. The argument comes down to TK and Hanifin are valued. Provorov isn't of big interest, but with retained salary it helps. But Hanifin, Dube, Toffoli for TK and Frost + partial cap dump (granted with some value), wouldn't get it done I don't think. I could see it getting closer with Toffoli dropped perhaps.

        Lindholm, on his current deal, would require a big pay. Hard to value a trade with so many big pieces changing teams. Value might be right in your proposal, depending on prospect (Forester would be of interest).

        Hypothetical trade that would never happen:
        Hanifin, Dube, Lindholm

        TK, Frost, Farabee, Forester, 1st (Insert Provorov if needed for Salary, and add a lower pick from Calgary).

        Kind of works out to Lindholm for Frost, Forester, 1st, then Hanifin, Dube, and a pick for TK, Farabee and Provorov (retained)

        I'm sure fans on both sides would pick that apart, but it's fun to try!
