Why do so many sabre fans want to trade for average to bad goalies (Hart, markstrom, and I keep seeing one other that slips my mind)

That is WAY to much for Murphy. You lost me at Olofsson.

Carter Hart is average to bad? He's 24 years old on the 7th worst team in the league this season and a bottom 5 team the last 2 years. It's comical people say he is bad, kid has 200 games under his belt, puts up solid numbers on mostly bad teams, and is 2/3 years away from when goalies start maturing. You're not getting him for two average players and a late first.

I'm not sure if KD would do that deal for Murphy... it's very tempting though... I do prefer the Edm deal above, mainly due to Olafsons age by the time the rest of the team is ready...

Yep. That's definitely an overpay for Murphy. The 2nd and Rosen alone probably gets it done. Hawks would probably also take back a guy like Bryson if needed.

It’s because people don’t actually watch his games. They just look at his stats. He’s their MVP this season and will likely be for the next decade.

Philly declines

Agree with earlier thoughts that that is too much for Murphy. I think Rosen, Bryson and the Philly 2nd is probably still a bit much. Isak Rosen, Bryson, & Philly 2nd for Murphy and NYR 2nd (or Chicago 3rd if Rangers make ECF and the pick becomes a '24 1st) is closer to fair from both sides. Rosen is 1st rounder equivalent, Bryson moves a RHD (and a little cap) Buffalo won't need with Murphy and gives the Hawks a RHD option to not have to rush kids, and upgrading to a better 2nd is a nice add. To do as well elsewhere, I think Hawks would have to retain some on Murphy (which they should be willing to do). This is probably a win win. Hawks get a really good forward prospect to jump start the rebuild in an area they need some building blocks (not many high end forward prospects beyond Reichel/Nazar) and a much higher 2nd to hopefully find another option. Buffalo gets a solid vet RHD they can slide into their top 4 to complent and mentor the stable of young D they have accumulated while the only really painful piece they give up is Rosen who they have a pretty deep pool of young forwards already contributing.

Yes he is average to bad. People seem to think there are all these amazing goalies on ****ty teams. Part of the reason your team is ****, is because of the goalie. There is a direct correlation to the two. I swear if one more bottom ten team tells me they have a top 5 goalie

And for the record. "Mostly solid" is the definition of average to bad.

Wow, a little angry are we guy?

First off, I didn't say he was top 5, I said he wasn't average to bad, which he isn't. He's not a bad goalie in the least, and almost every single person around the hockey world who is worth something (you and I are not for reference), would say the same. Furthermore, most of those same people wouldn't even put him in the average range either.

There is sometimes a correlation, there is also a correlation behind awful d zone play by bad defensemen or dmen who just aren't trying (Provorov, Sanheim, Seeler, Risto 1/2 of the year), Braun, and however many rookies we played. You can't leave your goalie out to dry and him still put up a good save percentage.

If you were to read, i put solid numbers (which doesn't mean average to bad) on mostly bad teams.
