What is the incentive for Minnesota to do this?
Addison has been significantly better than Smith to date for their NHL careers. That alone means the value coming back to Minnesota isn't enough. Besides, they're similar enough players that Minnesota wouldn't have any interest in Smith given his issues are the exact same ones that Addison has. So if they're looking to move Addison, they're not going to acquire a lesser carbon copy of him.
Then there's the fact that Minnesota's defensive prospect pool is full already. On the right alone; they have Faber, Spacek, Johansson, and Masters. Additionally on the left is; Lambos, Peart, Hunt, and O'Rourke. Many of whom are either better prospects outright, or are better fits organizationally.
Duhaime is basically Marcus Foligno 2.0, he's young yet, but I wouldn't move him and a 5th for a single 3rd.
