This is the PLD 2 MTL prediction

Créé par: MONSTER1974

Description
Kent Hughes has no leverage in negotiating a reasonable deal for PLD because he can’t offersheet PLD due to the MTL 2nd rd pick being in ARZ.

The trade below allows MTL to acquire that pick, AND shed some salary.

Once MTL acquires their own 2nd rd pick, then they can submit a 1yr/8M offersheet to PLD if they can’t work out a deal with WIN.

WIN doesn’t want an offersheet, because they know he’s walking at the end of the deal. WIN has to decide if they can do better than the offersheet compensation they would receive from MTL, or get more in a deadline deal as a rental.

PLUS… does WIN want to gamble with the possibility of PLD getting hurt before being dealt. If injured and can’t be traded, they run the possibility of losing PLD for nothing.

It makes for an interesting soap… but nothing like this happens unless the Habs acquire the pick from ARZ.

If that deal happens. WIN will be concerned.

if its this offer why would they match as they cant trade him after and walk him to ufa. Jets would get a 2024 unprotected pick and 1/2 early picks in the draft which is quite good. Unrealistic to os but most likely not matched

Offer sheet does not work well in this situation. Habs do not want him to walk in 2024 either.

Sign and trade can work, otherwise they just wait it out.

You are basically trading an unprotected 1st round pick by offersheeting him. That would be pretty dumb IMO since that pick will almost certainly be pretty high

They can not trade him for 1 year after he signs an OS, the 6 months (actually it is Jan 1st) deadline applies to negotiating an extension.

What are the details for the club receiving the offer sheet?
The player must be an RFA and therefore the receiving club must have made a qualifying offer (QO) to the player by the later of:
5:00pm ET on June 25th
5:00pm ET on Monday following the NHL Entry Draft
If the player has not received a QO they will instead become a UFA, for further details please see the Qualifying Offer Calculator
The club that receives an Offer Sheet has 7 days to match the offer or accept the draft pick compensation:
If the receiving club accepts the Offer Sheet, they receive the compensation package which coincides with the annual average value of the offer made from the submitting club
If the receiving club matches the Offer Sheet, they are bound to the contract details outlined in the offer, and must respect all aspects of the contract
If the receiving club matches the Offer Sheet, they cannot trade that player for 1 year from the date of first refusal

This is actually a genius post, and would be some shrewd business by Hughes if WPG is not willing to move Dubois at a reasonable price.

WPG would be faced with the situation of accepting the offersheet (1st, 2nd, 3rd) or matching it and surely losing Dubois for nothing as a UFA because they cannot trade him per the CBA.

It would be preferable for MTL to trade for him, but this really puts things into perspective for WPG, anything > 1st, 2nd, 3rd should be accepted.

Unless they come to terms with a "handshake deal" for an extension. A similar situation to Kotkaniemi in Carolina.

OR

MTL could OS Dubois 1 year/6.2M, therefore only having to pay a 1st and a 3rd in 2024. WPG would be in the same situation where if they match, they'd lose Dubois for nothing in 2024 since they couldn't trade him for a year, but with less return.

A lot offersheet ideas are not very good. People are still free to post the ideas so they can be discussed.

I was ready to knock the suggestion of an offersheet for PLD when I first started reading this post but once I understood the tough situation it put WPG - this is one of the rare situations where an offersheet is a viable option.

It would still be preferred if the two teams can come up with a reasonable deal, but this was a great post nonetheless.

All of the other offersheets you are asking about (Laf, Schneider, etc.) are irrelevant to this discussion.

I think our OS option is added onto our trade leverage, should help us strike a deal if there's one to be struck.
