Spurgeon is turning 34 and has only scored over 40 points 2x in his career. Spurgeon has 375 career points, Dahlin has 223. He's good but comparing him to Dahlin is insane

Olofsson Is worth a 2nd maybe but if I’m giving up Krebs + 2nd I’d rather have a guy like Garland who plays a much better 200ft game and has term

Take the first round pick out. Nobody should be paying a top 15 first round pick for a 34 year old defenseman.

Spurgeon has a full no move anyway. So there's no point in speculating what we know wont be happening because he is certainly not waiving.

Do they expect Krebs to be an NHLer? I added him not only because of family but because I thought he was a low value prospect

Yeah who would want to join a young team that's expected to be in the cup conversation over the next decade

That's a funny comment.

Quit acting like a player whose has spent the entirety of their NHL playing career in one location wouldn't have some semblance of loyalty to that organization.

And that right there is the rub. Spurgeon has spent his entire NHL career in Minnesota. He is the franchise leader and best defenseman the Wild have ever had. He's the team's Captain. Only the 2nd full-time Captain in team history, the first being of course Mikko Koivu. Furthermore, he's raised all 5 of his children along with his high-school sweetheart wife Danielle right here in Minnesota, where they were born. It's the only place they've known outside the occasional trips to Edmonton to see the Grandparents.

So, you know... that could actually mean something to the player.

There is more to waiving a NMC then, "Oh... that place has a bright future. I think I'll abandon my home for the last 13 years to go play for them."

We get it, the Sabre's are an up and coming team with a bright future.

But you know what? So is the team that said player already plays for. I mean, Minnesota currently has the best prospect pool in the league despite not having close to the same level of picks that Buffalo has had. And yet, their future is just as bright and already have the benefit of being a playoff team, something Buffalo can't as yet claim.

Are there issues the team is dealing with cap wise? Yes. But it's not as if they can't afford to ice a team that's competitive with careful planning and due diligence. But the simple fact remains that Minnesota is just as primed to be cup contenders as Buffalo for the next decade once the deadcap goes down in two years.

Krebs just shut down Bedard and Suzdalev and looked extremely impressive. I wouldn’t give up on him yet.

Umm my comment may have come off as a little harsh and I apologize for that but I was considering more than hockey. Spurgeon has a young family and they are growing up in Minnesota. He's not gonna uproot that when hes already set for life making tons of money. To be honest I am barely considering hockey in this discussion. Obviously nothing is certain but why sign for that long into your late 30's with a full no move and become the captain if you intend to even consider leaving. I frankly dont care about the state of either team to be honest. This is just my analysis of the situation but perhaps saying you cant speculate is harsh. Your welcome to thats the point of this website. Cheers smile

Short attention spans aren't my problem. And furthermore, that's rich coming from you, as I've seen you post longer comments than that and not even break it down into paragraph sections like I did.

And for the record the difference between Kane and Spurgeon is pretty massive and not even remotely comparable. Kane left Chicago for two reasons. The Blackhawks are a team heading into a likely total rebuild for the next 5+ seasons. Which isn't the case for either Minnesota or Buffalo. Even then there was only one place he was willing to go... New York.

Why? The Rangers are a playoff team, which Buffalo currently isn't, and because his son and long-time girlfriend live and are from there. He's closer to home and his family while playing on a better team.

Spurgeon is the direct opposite case and scenario.

Do better.

Nope. That is incorrect.

Suter is 2nd fiddle.

Spurgeon is...

A) The franchise leader in Minnesota for points scored, goals scored, assists, and number of games played from a defenseman in a Wild sweater, having surpassed Suter's total in all categories THIS year. He stands alone at the top. Suter is #2.

B) Has 7 more goals through his career than Suter does, despite having played in 509 less games than Suter so far.

C) Is a career 111 in Plus/Minus in comparison to Suter's career Plus/Minus of 101.

D) Carried Suter's slow a$$ for his final three years with Minnesota as he hid a lot of Suter's warts.

In short. Spurgeon is the better goal scorer, defender, player with more games played with the franchise, and has surpassed Suter's total numbers with Minnesota in all areas.

The only areas Suter has on Spurgeon for their careers is assists and total games played. Which he leads by a wide margin. But the vast bulk of those assists and games played come from his time in Nashville, so don't count towards his time in Minnesota.

Spurgeon is the best defenseman the team has ever had. It's true that Suter likely has the better career overall, but Spurgeon has been the better defenseman for their entire Wild tenures.

The only reason he has more points and goals scored than Suter is because he has 4 more years in Minnesota then him...Suter is yours guys' best defenseman ever right now, because of how good he was in his prime and how he never lost his point production(except for his last year with you guys).

Now if Spurgeon helps bring you guys a Stanley Cup, or is a member of the Wild for the rest of his career then I would agree with you about him being your best defenseman...

Also...Plus/minus means absolutely nothing, don't know why you brought that up...
