Zaitsev would suit Larsen's project more than Gudbranson because he is actually a high IQ defenceman with offensive upside who shouldn't be deployed for matchups - he needs to be sheltered

TB laughs hysterically at this trade. it would leave TB with 17 contracts and 5.8 million in cap space however neither Colton nor Jeannot would be resigned yet so this is absolutely stupid for TB

Fair enough, I just felt that Tampa could use some help on D and Blackwell would fit their system perfectly.

    I disagree, particularly if they want a ‘23 2nd.

Even with a Bedard/Fantilli, I don’t see this team making any big leaps next year. Swapping out Guds for NZ feels like a lateral move in terms of talent, and since cap space won’t be a problem next year, I don’t feel any rush to move Guds.

Stick it out for another year or two, bench him, bury him, buy him out, whatever. It’s a bad contract for a bad contract, and we were ****ed with Guds from the moment he signed that abomination of a deal, so might as well.

take kuraly out and Jackets accept

I think Zaitsev would actually fit Brad Larsen’s system actually. He is a good skater, good puck control, good shot. He would thrive alongside a lot of skilled players where there is lots of opportunity for D to walk the line, join the rush & make pinches. Being deployed as a DFD on OTT and TOR killed his familiar game.

Yeah I'd love Murphy. Murphy, Cernak, Perbix, Bogosian as your 4 RD or play Bogosian or Murphy on the left

That's my point. The depth players TOR brings in are useless on their team cuz of the deployment/system, but under a different usage they'd be more effective.

lol. Its early to tell for Acciari/Schenn but they've looked good so far. Hunt was a fringe NHLer to begin with, wasn't expected to play a real factor for the team, who cares. Kampf has been unbelievably useful for Toronto. Lyubushkin was solid for us. Archibald/Hutchinson was a long time ago so whatever. Only real miss here is Mrazek.

Problem is, DFD is what CBJ need. We have plenty of puck-movers and OFD-types.

Fair enough. I mean, it’s hard to ask for a better situation than BUF if you have 4 elite defencemen, an elite top line, 3 elite centers. The rest you can fill out sparingly.

    We don’t have a 3rd elite Center
    We have Thompson & Cozens

And while we do need help on defense,
it probably would suit us much better to get 2 solid guys for around a $5mil Cap hit each, as opposed to just 1 “all-star” type player
    For example:
Bc he’s already so good, Dahlin doesn’t need a partner on the level of Jones. Samuelsson & him work great together.
We just need to find Power a steady guy like Samuelsson to partner with, & then another guy like that to strengthen the 3rd pair as well

Our goaltending has been very up & down this year at times as well.
And while part of that can be attributed to the defensive lapses, and the youth of UPL, bringing in a solid Vet (an upgrade on Comrie) would be a big help.
Anderson is so old & injury prone that we can only play him so much, & this is likely his last year for us anyways.

And even though we are a high scoring team that gets lots of goals, our scoring depth beyond our top line has been fairly inconsistent.
So it would be a big help to bring in another scorer to play on Cozens wing as well.

    So you can see
Even though we are in fairly good shape moving forward, we also have a number of holes we need to fix up to be the legit contender we’re striving for.
And we just can’t even attempt to fill all those holes if we’re overdoing it with a $10mil defenseman in one of those spots.

Going back to what i said before- if u guys were to hold half his salary/Cap, then maybe- maybe
But otherwise, i just don’t see any chance at all of it happening
