That's still more than any comparable recent trade. You're asking for:

1) A 22 year old former 3rd OA pick who is starting to put it together at the NHL level.
2) A 21 year old former 1st round pick.
3) A later lottery pick in a deep draft.

That is, by some margin, more than Meier, Chychrun and Horvat cost. You're getting closer to the Eichel price-tag with that proposal, even if its not the same quality.

Montreal's main interest in Dubois would be because he reportedly wants to sign in Montreal. They'd be willing to accelerate that process, but they're rebuilding, they are not going to overpay for that privilege. And its pretty clear that if you want to take that little salary back, you're not going to have a robust market for him.

Yes, the Jets' current core is in their prime and all but guaranteed to make the playoffs so trading potential for certainty makes sense. MTL on the other hand are rebuilding, so trading away 2 current 21-22 year old current NHL players plus a likely top 15 (maybe even top 10) pick in a deep draft for a guy who might come for free in a year anyways doesn't make much sense.

The difference here though is that MTL wouldn't be the only team wanting to trade for PLD... In the end, Winnipeg could just give him the bag for him to stay (10 mill by 8). PLD won't sign long term even if they offer 13 millions per season, the family want to be close to home and direly wish to land in Montreal to live their live. As for the huge asking price for RFA right I need to see the last 5 trades to understand the value cuz seriously Jetman is way off the chart.
