This is just unacceptable.
After all, our GM should make every trade i want & do it exactly when i want it. Now I’m just gonna have to cry & whine some more! Maybe Adams will hear my bedroom door slam behind me as a stomp my way into another session of pouting like a little brat

Gee, aren't the Sabres better off long term having two first rounders a second rounder, and 4.6m in cap rather then 2.5 years of Chychrun? Sabres may/may not makes the playoffs this year, but certainly they wouldn't be beating Bruins in the first round anyway.

Because the Sabres are being patient and planning for the future while the Sens are paying big to be good now. Look at the expected path for these teams going forward. The Sabres are likely going to be the class of the Atlantic in 3 or 4 seasons if they are patient now. Ottawa is paying 1sts every year to be the 4th-6th best team in the division and are likely to get passed by Detroit, Buffalo and Montreal as the teams above them come down from their highs. Ottawa is going in on the next 2 or 3 seasons while Buffalo is playing a game where they will be very good for a much longer time.

Been saying it here for like a year, the Sabres have an internal cap.

Everyone thought it was just temporary. It's absolutely not. They dont want to spend outside of whats already here. They'll pay dahlin, power an quinn but thats about it.

The Sabres are loaded with prospects, they just need to fix their D. Dmen take a long time to develop, look at Dahlin and Power, they're 1st overalls and Dahlin took 5 years, people were calling him a bust, Power is on his 2nd year and has a lot of work to do still. Sitting on your hands is just as bad as over spending. The Sabres could easily have afforded this and still came out of the draft this year with a good group of prospects to add to their pool that's already top 3 in the league. Chychrun also has term so it's not like they were under pressure to resign him. There's no excuse at that price, not a single player was sent to Arizona, just a bunch of lotto tickets.

Chychrun would undoubtedly make us better now and would help us try to squeeze into playoffs. Costing us only a 2023 1st, 2024 2nd, and 2026 2nd appears to be a low cost considering reports of what Armstrong was initially looking for. Beyond 2-3 years however the trade just doesn't make sense. We have 2 #1 D-men in Dahlin and Power. Dahlin will likely make around 10mil on his next deal, Power either gets bridged or more likely gets 8ish mil. Chychrun will get north of 8 on his next deal as he is also a #1 Dman. It doesn't make sense to have 3 LHD making 8+ mil each on the same team. I think Adams likes the player but doesn't see a long-term fit as Chychrun would be our 3rd best defender (if Power develops well, which all indications show he will).

The long-term goal of this team is consistent Cup-contenders. Many of the pieces are in place for that in the future. Sacrificing 2-3 years of a winning window to try to desperately make the playoffs this season is not a wise move imo. If our current team plays well and plays hard they can still earn their way into the playoffs. Our focus as a team needs to be upgrading the RHD on the 2nd pairing and acquiring a capable 3 LHD. Furthermore we need to have a clear goalie situation, UPL can be a 1A goalie but we need a much more consistent goalie than Comrie if we want to make playoffs next season.

And Power doesn’t need an AllStar partner,

Good news, there seems to some good UFA goalies available this summer which might help short term for the Sabres.

There are even some RFAs goalies available that cap strapped teams may not match for 4.3m cap which cost just a second rounder.

Ya to me missing playoffs 11 straight years I'm not overly troubled with the prospect of maybe missing them another season. TBH I'd be more uncomfortable with them making the playoffs because I have gotten used to counting the Sabres out of the playoff race by about December and starting to look forward to the draft by January every season haha. To actually have to watch them in a playoff series would be very trying on my emotions

They could have carried Chychrun through this contract and moved him in its final year, that would have cushioned Power and given him easier assignments giving us a much better D core and all the precious picks back in 2 years or 2 or 3 playoff runs

IMO, it's going to impossible for Sabres/Wings/Sens even the Habs not to better next season. Gee, what an Atlantic division battle.
I love the way the Sabres have signed some of their young stars to nice long term contracts......

The Sabres may break even, rookies will still take time to adjust to the NHL. Quinn, Peterka, Cozens. Savoie and Kulich can step in but I'd expect them to produce as much as Quinn and Peterka are now. There's always next year forever

The problem is, no one will want to resonate with this when the Sens are playing playoff games. And you should know your audience. If the Sabres were 3 years removed from a playoff appearance everyone would agree with you. Using the word "patient" so casually when it comes to the Sabres and their fanbase means you dont understand the nuance of how draining it has been to be fan of the franchise.

They could have carried Chychrun through this contract and moved him in its final year, that would have cushioned Power and given him easier assignments giving us a much better D core and all the precious picks back in 2 years or 2 or 3 playoff runs

Acquiring a guy, just to turn around & flip him after next year isn’t a good idea either

    Power is doing just fine
    It’s his rookie year

We should be using all these “extra” assets to acquire a guy that can join our core, & be here long term
