Description
Chychrun seems to cost too much. LAK have plenty of offensive minded RHD, so a solid LHD might make more sense. Thoughts?

Edmunson has been particularly awful this season, the Kings have the old Habs GM as part of staff who was able to get the rights to Edmundson for a much lower price. The most I'd want to pay is a 3rd for Edmundson (50% retained)

I'm not sure Edmundson could even get the job from Edler as the 3LD.

The price tag on Edmundson makes Chychrun look relatively cheap.

Paying anything more than a second for Edmundson . . . even if it's only adding Austin Wagner . . . would be inexcusable.

Trading for the rights to a dman days away from becoming a UFA is not the same as trading for a dman at the deadline lol

Welcome to the days leading up to the trade deadline where players are often traded for far more than you feel they are worth. There is precedent that makes the Edmundson proposal quite plausible.

The point is do you think the Habs old GM is going to suggest overpaying for a player who has been one of their worst defensemen on a team full of rookies and near the bottom of the standings. Someone can overpay for Edmundson, but Blake’s trade history does not reflect it will be him, especially with such little cap space for next season after they sign Vilardi and a goalie.

Come now, don't use history and logic here on this site, most fan bases can't handle that! lol

That exact same logic can be applied in the complete opposite way

"Welcome to the days leading up to the trade deadline" where fans think every one of their teams players bring back way more than they are worth, when in actuality the trade return is disappointing. There is precedent that makes every non-Montreal fan's counter-argument quite possible.

Do you know anything about the “Habs old GM”. The dude spent 10 years collecting depth dmen. He values them more than anything else and they don’t have to be good. How much influence he would have on Blake in this scenario is to be determined, however. But would he be interested? Absolutely. And he knows it would cost more than a 3rd I’m sure.

Sure did, and usually got deals on them. Blake also hasn’t spent much on rentals due to the cap issues. Keep in mind, you didn’t refute the fact he’s been an awful defenseman. I’m not saying Edmundson can’t get a haul, just don’t expect it from the Kings.

See the Alec Martinez trade... Significantly better, numerous OT winners in big playoff games, had another year on his contract and he went for two 2nd round picks.. Where did Vegas put him? Top pair. Edmondson is similar to Maatta in the sense that Detroit fans think he's a legit 2LD, yet where did he play last season even in the playoffs? 3rd pair behind Edler. Same with Edmondson, on a crappy team playing top 4 minutes, as soon as he plays a game for the Kings, he'll be on the 3rd pair.

Edmondson is not worth anything more than a 2nd round pick with 50% retention at the deadline and even that's pushing it. Habs fans seem to think that because a team overpaid for Chiarot and Tampa over pays for every deadline acquisition that the rest of the mediocre players will be traded for the same price during the deadline and that's ridiculous.

No I’m well aware I didn’t refute that. But I’ve seen lots of “bad” (I use that term loosely given he plays 20 minutes a night for a bad team) defencemen who appear to not be so good in the regular season but become beasts in the playoffs ( yes there’s a precedent for that, multiple years) go for big returns at the deadline. Also, please note Edmundson has another year left at a pretty reasonable number of MTL were to retain 50%, so not a true rental.

Yeah and Gavrikov is on the verge of being traded for a ridiculous return also. So I guess by your logic he must be going to tampa or Florida lol

I'm sure there are many Habs not giving 100%, like Dadonov. I keep going back to Cogliano who admitted he sandbagged it for the lowly Sharks; since joining the Avs he's given everything.

Dadanov was traded for Webers contract, it was a dump then, and it's worse now. If he wants out he should play back up to his level, same for Edmundson.

These guys are pro's, if being a mentor to so many young defensemen is not inspiring enough for the guy sounds like he's got an attitude problem on top of being really bad. The Habs got a steal on the Chiarot trade, and made the other team look bad, I have to think GMs don't want to fall into this pitfall again unless this is a super win now window.

D was the VGKs best player down the stretch last year. He's Russian, and spent many years in the KHL between NHL stints; his investment for one season of a bottom-dwelling Habs team is probably not very high.

Both are proven NHL veterans. If either are moved, I expect better play and good value for the acquiring team.

That's fine and they very well might, but their play this season has not reflected a positive value. Even at half retained, the Athletic posted Edmundson's contract worth ~$0.8M and Dadanov at ~$0.9M based on the value they provide the team. They may do better with other teams, but why are other teams paying to make that risk?
