ok these meier trades are getting out of hand

Dont think that he will get more than Horvat, they are 18 or so months difference in age, and he plays wing

This is an overpay but Meier > Horvat imo; you need to let the Horvat thing go - he was traded for less than most Canucks fans thought but 🤷. And the whole center vs wing argument is a bit lame. Ovi, Kane, Kucherov all play wing & they were (are) the elite of the elite.

Okay, I can see Meier getting the equivalent of the Eichel deal -- a first, a second, Sharangovich and Mukhamadullin -- because Eichel had the injury concern but after all, he's just better. I can't see Meier getting THIS kind of bonanza.

Overpay

This is about the price it took for both Horvat and Fiala

Fiala return = Faber, 1st = Mukhamadullin, 1st
Horvat return = Beau, Raty, 1st = Johnsson, Foote, 1st (+Walsh)

But I think it does make the difference in this case, Stylistically they are very similar, they produce very similar to, the only thing that Meier has over horvat really is that he is only a RFA as opposed to a UFA at the end of the deal. He makes a tad bit more but its essentially the same, The only thing is that Meier outperformed horvat last year, I would not be mad if they got more, but I think that the value of this draft might temper the return, unless it is a very late pick (NYI wont be), I think that the value will end up being the same.



I think this is a very fair way to look at it, erring on the side of the fiala return as I think that SJS is looking more for pieces that will be there for the long haul and not so much the current player in Beau
