That would not be a good offer even if the Stars weren't one of the Blues' top rivals. And they definitely are.

Who cares where he is going, DAL won’t resign him and the Blues are tanking
Getting a 1st round pick is better than a 2nd + B+ prospect … anyway you are homer so I will ignore the : that would not be a good offer …

1 - The Blues do not trade stars to rivals unless it's a wild overpay, and even that has not happened in decades now.

2 - A 23 1st, sure. A protected 24 1st and a meh prospect for ROR, retention, taking two dumps? Nah. That's not good. The Blues are not going to subsidize some other teams' Cup chase, let alone a rival.

3 - Classic projection. Considering my solid record of calling Blues trades and signings here, you might just prefer to listen a little.

It probably won’t be DAL, I just think it make sense for both teams
What do you think O’Reilly get in a trade with retention ?

Rental Stastny was moved to the Jets.

Would be happy if the prospect were changed from Stranges to Bischel.

I just don’t really think the Blues are gonna wanna add salary to the payroll to that extent. That’s asking the FO to take on millions in salary over the final couple of months to fall in the standings. I could see like Gurianov alone or Khudobin alone. RORs salary is just so low right now that it’s hard to imagine adding cap by a vast margin in a trade of him

Gurianov will be a RFA so you could resign him or not qualify him
Khudobin contract expires as well
He could back up Binnington for the reminder of the season & trade Greiss for a pick
IMO it’s worth it if you can get a 1st round pick
If you can get one another way without taking that much cap, I would understand. But if this is the best offer they get, I say they pull the trigger

Issue is mainly the salary coming back. Not the cap hit, our ownership group has been fantastic with spending. But it’s hard to justify adding that much salary over short term when our outlook this season isn’t great. I just wonder how that conversation would go with us being a mid market team

1 - Rental Statsny was not a star, not playing well, not going to be re-signed and frankly fetched an overpay that might have been a legendary fleece had Foley not suffered a career ending injury just after the trade. Plus, Winnipeg aren't really a main rival.

2 - Yes, that or Harley would obviously change the conversation.

3 - Yup.

Well, here's the thing. Today, I'd say Army will continue pushing for a 1st+, but maybe not get it. After all, they have had extension talks and he'd want to let ROR have some games to set aside any lingering injury concerns like the one that probably hurt Tarasenko's return a little. If Toews gets dealt, what he gets dealt for may have some small effect on the ask/return. If Toews says he's not going anywhere, I think Army will get his 1st+ or some commensurate package that doesn't include a 23 1st (off the top of my head, for example, to Carolina for Gunler, their 23 2nd and Philly's 23 3rd). It's hard to gauge because some of the teams that might want him don;t have a whole lot of tempting draft/prospect assets to deal. And the ones that do would likely be trying to hold on to the ones the Blues would like. But the longer Army waits, the more likely someone gets desperate.

While I think anytime would like ROR on their team for a playoff push, he is less valuable to the Stars:

1. Giving one of your rivals your young assets for 3 months of a player isnt a great long term vision.
2. Stars Center Depth is one of their best aspects of the team. Hintz, Pavelski, Benn, Seguin, Johnston, Dellandrea, Faksa, and Glendening can all play center if need be, and a majority of them are penalty killers. ROR would be redundant, and forcing one of their other centers to play on the wing.
3. GM Jim Nill has already said he's not really interested in trading a future first for a rental this year, or giving up their top prospects. Given the commentary above, it sounds like the Blues are best to find the best package elsewhere.

Faksa is DAL 2C right now … they need someone to play with Seguin & Marchment

He is their 2C right now but he definitely wont be post TDL because he is playing with Seguin & Marchment. That isnt the Stars second best line, though.. He is just playing with them because they need another winger to play with Seguin and Marchment. Because Gurianov isnt the answer there, they shifted Seguin to winger since they have the center flexibility. I'd argue that Benn-Johnston-Dellandrea is more the Stars second line, but 5v5 icetime varies.

Marchment's been very bad lately. No coincidence Faksa is his centermen....
