24-25 PIT helps out
The Stars will not be trading Jamie Benn and Jamie Benn will not accept a trade for Dallas. Both non-starters. The UFA deals are outrageous with the upcoming cap increase.

Bert
Given feedback on the boards and comments around a DET-DAL trade; seems like Bertuzzi would be worth more than the price listed above (especially if RW fans think there's a chance they extend Bertuzzi).

I like your Washington Offer. not sure about Intradivision trades but he fits a need on the Caps Blue Line with all their injuries. And they have all defenseman that are expiring. Could be a fit there.

Suter has a NMC. Stankoven isnt being dealt for a rental (or probably even available). Stars dont need Gavrikov based on the price that was leaked yesterday.

We'll agree to disagree, because according to multiple analytics sites, he is not a liability, and provides surplus value to his cap hit and his role. He is not a liability in my eyes, he's a solid stay at home defenseman who plays key PK minutes for a top PK team in the league. Not much more you can ask for in my opinion. Not everyone can be Miro Heiskanen or Esa Lindell.

I dont see the Stars moving Bourque or Stankoven for a rental, unfortunately. Nill has said so in public articles thru The Athletic. However, that could always change. I'm not the biggest fan of Bourque in comparison to other fans/critics, so who knows.

ROR to DAL - Perfect fit
He is their 2C right now but he definitely wont be post TDL because he is playing with Seguin & Marchment. That isnt the Stars second best line, though.. He is just playing with them because they need another winger to play with Seguin and Marchment. Because Gurianov isnt the answer there, they shifted Seguin to winger since they have the center flexibility. I'd argue that Benn-Johnston-Dellandrea is more the Stars second line, but 5v5 icetime varies.
Marchment's been very bad lately. No coincidence Faksa is his centermen....

Boeser at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>Not commenting on the value of the deal, but the Stars can quickly solve that cap issue by buying out Suter. Buying out Suter gives Dallas enough cap to sign Dellandrea to a <$2M contract, call up both Harley and Stankoven for NHL roles, and sign cheap depth pieces for the 4th line/3rd pair (internal candidates would be Joel Hanley & Jacob Peterson)</div></div>
While I do agree with you that the Suter buyout is something I would consider; I dont think Nill buyous out Suter, given his endearment (for better or worse) of veteran players. The Suter and Pavelski family connection is really close, and with Pavelski extending for another year, I have to assume that implies that Suter is planning on playing another year or two. Though, I can see Suter retiring if the Stars make a deep run, something Suter has never done in his career.
I think ultimately Suter will decide when he is done. If anything, they may bury Suter's contract in the minors and have him move into a different part of the organization for the life of his contract, similar to Comeau last year and Bishop the last couple years ("Officially" starting next year).

Thanks for the feedback. I can see that. I think that's what makes this potential trade fun and speculative. Stevie Y is very mum on his plans, but I do think Nill having familiarity with the Red Wings and that organization makes Bertuzzi a deadline fit. Every player has a price though.

ROR to DAL - Perfect fit
While I think anytime would like ROR on their team for a playoff push, he is less valuable to the Stars:
1. Giving one of your rivals your young assets for 3 months of a player isnt a great long term vision.
2. Stars Center Depth is one of their best aspects of the team. Hintz, Pavelski, Benn, Seguin, Johnston, Dellandrea, Faksa, and Glendening can all play center if need be, and a majority of them are penalty killers. ROR would be redundant, and forcing one of their other centers to play on the wing.
3. GM Jim Nill has already said he's not really interested in trading a future first for a rental this year, or giving up their top prospects. Given the commentary above, it sounds like the Blues are best to find the best package elsewhere.

Boeser trade
Replace the 2024 1st with either Bischel or Harley plus another pick (2nd or 3rd), and I think this is a fair deal for both. As stated above, if you want retention, and VAN needs D depth desperately, I think you are in the ballpark for Boeser if you give up a top D prospect.
From a Stars fan, while I do think Boeser is great for this year, but he may be redundant for next year once Stankoven comes into the Top 9. and at a much cheaper cost over the two years remaining on Boeser's deal.

Boeser at the deadline
I think Vancouver would need to retain more for the Stars to consider this. It's not the package it costs, it's the lack of future Cap Space the Stars have to be able to add Kiviranta, Glendening replacements next year, plus the next contract for Dellandrea. Stars would have zero flexibility into the offseason, and only 2.6m in cap space in 23-24 given your scenario.
So the Stars either need more retention from Vancouver (which increases the return), or the Stars need to look for a cheaper option.

I’ve never understood the scratching of Miller unless it’s just for rest. He’s been stellar so far in my eyes, and that’s maybe because I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from him but he really does look like the Colin Miller of old. Great find by Jim Nill. I wonder if there’s a Hakanpaa/Schenn trade between Vancouver and Dallas. Vancouver likely shows interest because Hakanpaa is younger, a big RHD and good PK guy which is something Vancouver is desperately missing</div></div>
You're last sentence is quite literally how Hakanpaa provides value to the Stars. What other RH defenseman can do that in our organization, and at the Cap Hit Hakanpaa provides?

I think all my fellow Stars need to take a chill pill here. We're first in the west. Every team has its opportunities. For you guys to actively get so upset over our Bottom 2/4 defensemen make me feel really good about where this team is at. Trading away Hakanpaa or Suter right now would make our team worse, not better.
Anyways, if you dive deep into the analytics/player models that are out there, Hakanpaa is above league average in defensive metrics according to Dom @ the Athletic, and J Fresh has him at 79% WAR defensively. He is also a key penalty killer. Until you guys all provide better options at either a cheaper cap hit, players that can be plugged in without giving up future assets, I am struggling to understand all of your frustration.

Going for it
Bourque and a 2024 1st is steep for 3 months of Kane, especially for someone like Nill who has explictly said he's not over paying for a rental. Kane's NMC limits the possibilities, and more than likely the return for the Hawks. Take out either and you probably have a deal.

Hakanpaa is good for his role. If you expect him to be anymore than a bottom pairing D, with a RH shot, and plays PK...I really dont know what you are looking for. If anyone needs to go on the Stars, it's Ryan Suter. Hakanpaa isnt the issues in the Stars blue line.

I don’t think Okposo gets traded; but I could see value in Minnesota for this deal. Has cap space. Could be a veteran forward they need for their playoff push. Okposo goes back home for his last year (or more) of his career.
