This is a roster of players that in the right circumstance, can demand a first. Some of these players are more likely to be dealt than others, but with these players a first can be in play.
Henrique, Toews (b/c of cap hit) & Bertuzzi don’t return a 1st imo but otherwise sounds about right.
You’ve listed 21 players but <10 teams will (should) be willing to part with their 1st rounders - will be an interesting TDL. If only the artificially low cap wasn’t blocking so much potential activity
I’m sure a GM would bc big = good but for various reasons I’d have a really hard time wrapping my head around sending a first for Perron Bert Anderson Edmunson ROR Toews. I guess if you start throwing retention in the argument gets easier but I’d still be on the fence.

A lot of fans of non playoff teams tend to:
1/ overvalue their players
2/ forget that leverage works both ways; a lot of these players can leave as FA so there is pressure on gms to get something for them
For a lot of reasons (lots of impact players likely available, limited cap space amongst contenders), I think (hope 🤞) it’ll be a buyer’s market .
Wings fans (in particular) seem to think if they don’t get the return they want, that can just extend their pending FAs. Pretty sure it doesn’t work that way - most players test FA rather than accept extension this late in the game

All depends if there are other pieces involved, i.e Toews and a 3rd/4th for a 1st

ROR deserves a first. All these guys could get a first, and it wouldn't be so unrealistic.

The only guy who I think will resign is Larkin. I have a feeling he will bend to Stevie Y & will be a Wing for life.

Yep, totally agree. I think it trending more towards a buyers market like you mentioned is an important factor, especially paired with limited cap space amongst the teams looking for upgrades.
Also, something not mentioned too much is NTC/NMC protection from some players on or off of this list. We’ve seen it play out in the past that returns are limited bc a player only wants to go to a certain team (recent examples are Giroux and Hall).

Yeah, they could. But I think a lot of it will depend on amount of players available versus demand (trending towards a buyers market) and even if a first is sent for these guys it probably won’t be black and white. For example if I’m sending a first for ROR I’m probably expecting full retention or there are other pieces thrown in from both sides to tamp down the value.
It’s all semantics I guess. We’ll see how it plays out.

Translation... the Detroit Red Wings are living rent free inside my head.
Best C Rental: OReilly
Best W Rental: Meier
Best D Rental: Gavrikov (though Schenn will have a lot of interest and may end up the top pick simply because there will be more teams able to fit him in)
There's no rental G on the market that will return a 1st.
I'm taking into account Toews/Kane's and Larkin's apparent reluctance to leave their teams and trade protections limiting the market for several players.
I don't think we will see many players with term moved. There are a couple potential big trades that have been percolating (and Meier falls into both categories). Chychrun may finally move, but the rest aren't really deadline moves.
Everyone else will likely be a hockey trade, prospect as the main piece, or a 2nd+ at best.
There are a number of players on this list that get a 1st ONLY if there is retention.
No one is paying a first for McCabe, Anderson, Toews etc without retention. I realize that the retention may be required to facilitate the trade, but the players aren't worth it by themselves (less of a big deal on UFAs--expected to retain)
