I like that you iced a lineup of our current guys, since most of the guys you added would end up out of the lineup for one reason or another. Motte would be the only guy who would play. But you gave away Gaut, which is Motte with size and the ability to draw penalties.

JVR might be able to play until Gallant gets mad that he's not skating.

Hawks would want a F prospect in place of Jones. Hawks have a glut of left shot D prospects already.

I'd rather keep Vrana. You're probably right in where his value is right now. But I think it'll increase once he's back to playing NHL games.

We have plenty of cap space and plenty of Ilitch money. Money isn't a problem. Especially after Yzerman has kept a low cap since he arrived in 2019.

Exactly, great spot for it and there won’t be need for it for 2-4 years either

But what would be the point of keeping him if his relationship with the club is damaged to a point where he won't play for the big club again? As far as I'm concerned this is Detroit saving ~1.5 AAV from the "bury him" option while getting a draft pick. I just don't see in any way shape or form why Deroit wouldn't do this (and I'm weighing in as a neutral fan)

Yeah most of it will be needed for Seider and Raymond's contract extensions. Yzerman isn't one to hand out long term deals. I expect Larkin to get one.

That's just it. This is all speculation. Media driven. Yzerman doesn't leak anything. So where is this coming from? Vrana hasn't even said why he needed to be in the players assistance program. Yzerman has respected his right to privacy.

It's about asset management. Why trade a player when his value is so low? Yzerman doesn't get paid by the Rangers. It's why Zadina hasn't been traded. What's the point in trading him for dog crap?

Vrana has a season and a half left on his contract. Why rush to trade him?

Respectfully, literally any report about anything is "speculation" if you really want to break it down. Is there a shot that the reports he won't play again aren't true? I guess. If someone held a gun to my head and asked me what I think is going on there, I'd probably listen to the reports who likely have connections closer to the situation than anyone else. Common sense would also probably tell someone observing the situation from the outside that undisclosed player assistance treatment and going unclaimed on waivers despite raw performance that well exceeds contract value *probably isn't a good thing regarding his situation in Detroit*.

Of course Detroit doesn't do this if all of the media is dead wrong and their plan all along is to throw him in a top-6 role in a few weeks to bring his value up. But all of the information available to the public would imply that's probably not going to happen.

As far as asset management goes, all there is to say is if he doesn't play in a Red Wings uniform again, his value certainly won't go up.
