Honestly Meier to NJ just makes too much sense

Description
Meier to NJ has been done such a sickening amount of times and while I am over all the proposals, it really does make a lot of sense. He is pretty much everything the devils need in their top 6 rn and they should 100% be in on him. After missing out on Fiala, Gaudreau, and Debrincat, I think Fitzgerald is locked into acquiring Meier. I don’t see many teams that can offer up a good enough package, have the cap space to sign him long term, as well as being in the playoffs.
I know Sharks fans are going to want an A plus prospect going back to him. The consensus on here is Holtz. I’m not sure the organization is ready to give up on him yet and I think they will try their hardest to avoid shipping him off.

Détails additionnels:
SJ get another 23 1st this year and Sharangovich who might work out really well in SJ. He’s not a top of the line guy but he can certainly be a 2nd line winger if he gets the opportunity.
Kevin Bahl joins the SJ squad this year and gives them another huge defender with potential. At this point he just needs reps in the NHL and where better to learn than a team with Karlsson, Vlasic and Ferraro.
Josh Filmon might be the sexy piece going back to SJ. While a 6th rounder from the last draft, this Kid has been lighting it up in the WHL as one of the leagues top scorers. He’s looking like another Fitzgerald late round gem and could be enticing enough for SJ, along with everything else offered, to pull the trigger on a move like this.

The deal does make sense, and its definitely better than 99.9% of the Meier trades on here. A for effort

I like Meier a lot but *again* this is way too much to give up for him.
There are no comparables for having to give that much value when accounting for the small amount of buyers available to fit his cap and the uncertainty stemming from the combination of his 10m QO and limited team control.

Meier would be great for this team but I'd hate it if the Devils went after him in such a reckless manner.
Filmon and the 3rd could comfortably be removed and the remaining package would still be a significant step above the return Fiala got the Wild and even slightly higher than what DeBrincat returned for the Blackhawks.

Filmon and a first are high prospect value & Sharangovich is Top 6 in San Jose. That contract materially reduces Meier's value. 10mil QO and then UFA. He'd be nuts to negotiate anything reasonable, so extension talks will be challenging for the acquiring counterpart. When all is said and done, I suspect he will remain in Cali.

Wouldn't touch that Meier contract unless they gave him away. 10 mil and then he can walk? Good luck negotiating against that. I think you are right, not many teams would / could even entertain trading for this guy.

If this is the offer for SJS, I hope they reject. I don't think it helps their direction.

Having a good season after being drafted in the 6th round doesn’t make you a top prospect. Doesn’t fit San Jose’s need either so that doesn’t make sense. And sharangovich could be 2nd line in San Jose but realistically I don’t think he’s a top 6 player, more of a third line guy. He also needs a new contract at the end of the year and is arbitration eligible which makes teams hesitate to deal the that headache.

I think this is deal is within the range of possible, but still in the more expensive side. I’d like to see Sharangovich changed to a prospect (anyone expect Hughes, Holtz, Nemec, Mukhamadullin, Gritsyuk). Maybe Foote, Zetterlund or Casey if the 3rd is removed. Not Salminen (we are thin with big scoring centers).

Not enough. Has to include a Holtz level player.

Baseline for me would be 2023 first, Holtz and Shar or Bahl

Yes the haul of *random low tier prospects* for a PPG forward should really get us excited.

How about this, pretend you are trading Bratt and think of what you would ask, thats what we want.

Why was Filmon drafted 6th round & who was his peer group going into the draft, worth considering? It would be a mistake for NJ to trade him based on that, but sure, I guess draft year position matters. Or does it? Bratt was 6th round, NHL next. I'm not calling him Bratt, but odd things happen when scouting with imperfect information (like with covid blackouts) & drafting teenagers. It will be interesting to see where scouts have him after this season at the ripe old age of 18, 3 months.

Career goal per game difference btw first line Meier & third line Sharangovich 0.052 ...

Whatever you believe is the issue with Sharangovich's contract, it's still team control 3 years for a proven NHL talent at 24 years of age.

Just sayin

Meier broke out last year, he was mid before that. He didn’t score in the first 9 games of the year and still has 26 this year, on a 62 goal a season pace since that time. He’s on another level than sharangovich.

Agreed 100% Meier is the better player by a fair margin ... but Sharangovich is in NHL year 3, Meier year 7. I think we know what Meier is but do we know what Sharangovich will become? Maybe this is it, but it would be logical to imagine he will progress. Currently a 2nd line / 3rd line 20 goal guy with PK abilities & a decent runway of team control ... that's very valuable in todays cap strapped world. We've seen crazy payoffs for similar guys at deadline last few years. I wasn't suggesting Sharangovich was better, but you seemed to indicate Sharangovich and Filmon were of dubious value vs. Meier. That didn't seem correct to me. Once the economics & the extra assets (picks and
Bahl) come into play, it's seems to be out of market. Meier's contract is a tough ask.

I think sharangovich has value for sure, I guess it’s need for a contract after this with arb rights. The past couple seasons guys like that haven’t been qualified, not that I think the devils will go that route. What would you think his next salary would be?

Tough to say, Fitzgerald plays a bit of hardball on the RFAs. Suspect he will offer a one year deal with a crap raise, unless Sharangovich breaks out hard, which I think is unlikely with his linemates. Maybe 1 year 2,350,000 - 2,500,000 Range

I'm so happy that you mentioned Fiala and DeBrincat as comparables. Some of the trades here for Meier are completely ridiculous.

Fiala <> 1st (#19OA) + Faber
DeBrincat <> 1st (#7OA), 2nd, 3rd

I see people here giving away 2, even 3 1st round picks (some former 1sts, plus futures)

Given Meier's contract situation, teams are going to be wary to give up more than their late 1st + prospect (2nd rounder or later). If Meier for some reason wants to negotiate a long term deal and forego his earned $10mm season, then SJ could see a better return, but as noted, why would Meier do that unless someone is giving him 7yrs X $10mm?

That's an unreasonable ask. Bratt's QO is $5.45mm and Meier's is $10mm. Bratt's contract and age make him much more valuable than Meier.

SJ's wild spending era has really put them into a world of pain. Good luck with trying to deal Meier, but when all is said and done, I don't think you will be getting the return you are hoping for. A $10mm QO? Good grief.
