Not dumb if they get Horvat and Pasta to re-sign with the usual Boston discount.

Who replaces Carlo? It would create a big hole in RD

yes. you create a hole in your top 4 while also giving up your best prospect for a rental at a position you don't necessarily need

Can't have it all, they'd have to search FA (again, on the presumption that neither Horvat or Pasta take $10+M contracts)

Horvat and Coyle would set up the 1-2 C position for the foreseeable future, especially with Bergeron and Krejci getting on in years, and even keeping either of them on 1-2 year contracts can help the transition.

Would rather just keep our stacked D then improve an offence that is currently top 2 in the league, and possibly screw over our top 4.

If B’s choose to upgrade all they need is a stronger middle 6 forward we don’t need to go all out.

Nyquist/ roslovic guys like that are more in bruins price range and would solidify our forward core.

Also highly doubt horvat takes a super team friendly deal in Boston he has no ties to us and will 100% cash in on this overproducting contract year he is having, just like every late 20/ early 30 yr old player does

Lol, cmon buddy. He’s a rental. No matter how bad you want to get some crazy value for him, lets just live in reality for a second. 2+2=4. The sky is blue. Bo Horvat is not signed beyond this year. He’s a rental.

You’re right, can’t have it all.

Except that they do. They’re set at center, and RD, and are on a historically good pace. This ruins it.

The bottom line here is that this makes the team worse. Significantly worse. They also lose their top prospect and four more years of a top four d man on a great contract.

Dumb doesn’t do it justice. Not only is it an impossibly bad fit, but the value is so bad that i think ownership might be able to sue Sweeney for malpractice. It’s just brutal start to finish.

I should probably clarify my reasoning for this one.

The latest Friedman rumor was that Horvat could go to the Bruins "long term", so this wouldn't be a rental. To be able to re-sign Horvat, the B's would need to shed cap. Guys like Grzelcyk, Coyle, Forbort, Reilly, etc would have to be on the chopping block. Can't see the Canucks having any interest in those guys, Carlo is about the only one who would make sense from their side.

Schenn fills his spot for this year's cup run, but it leaves a big hole next year. Is it dumb? Yeah probably, but who knows.

There is clear interest from both camps and it seems that Horvat will sign in Boston so I don't believe it's a rental especially for Boston, if this was Toronto then fine it's a rental cause they can't extend him beyond this season but the Bruins clearly can.

He isn't a rental for the Bruins since it's beyond obvious to everyone that he has strong interest in joining the Bruins.

No team "has it all", almost every team tries to get better through the TDL, even if marginally so, to get the cup, there's always room for improvement.

But as I eluded to, this would make sense in a more forward thinking aspect, because, Bergeron and Krejci won't be with the Bruins in 1, 2, 4, 8 years time? Horvat is on the right side of 30, and an 8 year extension puts him in the 35 range, so, a deal makes sense.

Losing Carlo, not as great, then again, nobody says Carlo has to go, I'm sure Vancouver would let Horvat go for a high prospect and a pick, and a dead contract (think Smith)

Lysell, while being a good prospect, is a RW, and doesn't address the institutional lack of depth at C when Bergeron and Krejci retire, a Coyle/Zacha 1-2 isn't going to get you very far.

My thinking is, get him in, show him the culture especially with Bergeron still there, whereas reaching out as a UFA, there's less of those ties there.

(although I do think Pasta and Horvat hit the market and take big pay days where they can, and I'm in no way a Boston fan, I like what they got going culturally, and would like to see more teams adopt this)

This makes them worse this year.

Extending him means losing pastrnak.

There’s no way around this, trading for horvat is a horrible idea both short and long term. There’s no argument for the contrary

Well this is nonsensical for a lot of reasons.

1. We don’t know if the bruins even asked about horvat. It would make sense if they hadn’t, because it’s not a fit.
2. We know nothing about the interest from either camp. Absolutely zero.
3. We have a large sample size of data, even if they figure out an extension - it’s still rental prices.
4. The bruins cannot extend him without losing pastrnak. Full stop.

Anyone trying to justify a horvat to Boston trade hasn’t spent five seconds actually thinking about. It’s a ridiculously dumb idea

Whether he wants to re-sign or not does not change the fact that he is currently on an expiring contract

Your math skills leave a little to be desired, what with Foligno, Smith and possibly Krejci and Bergeron off the books, including a $1-4M cap increase.

But I'm not here to change your mind, so, godspeed!

My math skills are fine. You just aren’t accounting for the $4.5M in bonus overages the bruins are going to have.

Or raises to frederic, swayman, and possibly clifton.

Horvat is a non-starter & for that package ^ ^ even more so!!

He's not required now w/ centre being occupied (#1 to #4 = PB/DK/CC/TN).

BUT here we are week-3 or -4 or -5 or blah blah blah.... of ACGMs ignoring the CAP-compliance part of the pro-gram...
